UPDATE: The Shop Agora closes Phinney Ridge store, turning into wholesale showroom, distribution center

January 30th, 2013 by Doree

Update Thursday: We’ve just heard back from The Shop Agora’s owners, and they tell us the Phinney Ridge store is being turned into a wholesale showroom and online distribution center because their business is expanding. They’ve consolidated their retail and food service to the Capitol Hill store.

Earlier: The Shop Agora has closed its Phinney Ridge store, 6417-A Phinney Ave. N. The sign on the door asks customers to visit its  Capitol Hill store, which opened in August 2011, at 346 15th Ave. E.

The shades remain closed, but in looking through the glass door you can see they’ve started packing up.

Shop Agora expanding to Capitol Hill

January 21st, 2011 by Doree

The Shop Agora, a Mediterranean specialty store at 6417-A Phinney Ave. N., is adding a second store on Capitol Hill.

The new store, to be called The Shop Agora on 15th, will be much larger than the current store in Phinney Ridge. Co-owner Nikos Spiliopoulos says the Capitol Hill store will have four to five times the amount of food and wine. It also will have a tasting bar (hand carved in France), larger deli case, and will serve small plates of food, as well as take-out.

New food items will include plenty of Agora private label items, and they’re creating some gluten-free and vegan options. The new Shop Agora also will have specialty items such as organic saffron and paprika, and peppers from Spain.

The Shop Agora on 15th hopes to open at the end of February.

In case you’re wondering, Spiliopoulos says their current lease for the Phinney Ridge store lasts another seven years, with a five-year option after that.
