Spring PEPS groups starting in the neighborhood

April 6th, 2016 by Doree

PEPS (Program for Early Parent Support) is starting up its spring sessions in Phinney Ridge and Greenwood.

Second Time Around
Space is available for parents and babies in the upcoming Second Time Around Group that starts April 6 in Phinney Ridge at the Illuminations Learning Studio. Second Time Around is a PEPS Group that focuses on the newborn in a family that has one or more older children. One parent attends with the newborn 0-4 months old. Group participants meet, share and learn in facilitated sessions with a trained leader. Each meeting includes time for sharing parenting highs and lows, time to focus on the babies’ development and a discussion topic. Meetings also include break time for informal socializing and connecting with other parents.

Little Peppers
Space is available for parents, toddlers and babies in the upcoming Little Peppers Group that starts April 12 in Greenwood at All That Dance. Little Peppers is for families with two children ages 3 and under. Group participants meet, share and learn in sessions led by a professional facilitator, who is assisted by a trained Wondersitter childcare provider. Each meeting includes time for sharing parenting highs and lows, time to focus on the babies’ development and a discussion topic. Babies and children remain in the room with their parents for the entire meeting – which makes for quite a busy and exciting time!

PEPS Newborn Groups
The PEPS Newborn program is for new parents with their babies 0-4 months old. Groups meet in the homes of groups members for 12 weeks (or in community locations in some areas), during the day with one parent attending, or in the evening with one or both parents. Find groups starting in your area in April, or plan ahead by registering for a group starting summer or fall.

Adjusting to Parenthood
Adjusting to Parenthood is a support group that offers additional support for the emotional changes and challenges of adapting to parenthood. It offers a supportive environment in which the full range of postpartum experiences is welcomed and the everyday realities of being a new mom are understood. If you could use a little extra support in addition to your PEPS Group, consider attending one of these drop-in sessions, which are facilitated by professional therapists. The drop-in fee is $10 or pay what you can per session.

Financial assistance is available for PEPS programs.

While You’re Waiting
Find out about PEPS at a While You’re Waiting meeting. Every 2nd Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Phinney Neighborhood Association.

Volunteer Leader Training
Volunteer leaders find joy and satisfaction in helping new parents connect and share through their PEPS groups. Leaders commit to 12 consecutive weeks (fewer if co-leading with a friend, spouse or partner). A 4-hour training session explains the structure of a PEPS meeting and provides practice with active listening, group dynamics, planning and facilitating topic discussions. We offer monthly leader trainings at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford. Contact Cate Palmer at catep@peps.org with questions or to sign up for training.

The Phinney Group meets once a week for 11 weeks every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. starting September 18 at Linda Brooks Photography Studio.

And, for new and expectant parents who are interested in PEPS neighborhood-based Newborn Groups, the next While You’re Waiting Drop-In Session will take place at PNA on Wednesday, September 11 from 6:30-8p.m. Attending a While You’re Waiting Information Session is a great way to meet other new and expectant parents and talk about the experience of pregnancy and early parenthood. PEPS orientation at Phinney Center on March 14

February 23rd, 2012 by Doree

The Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS) has openings for families of newborns in Phinney Ridge and Greenwood. An orientation is set for 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, room 6.

PEPS Groups help new parents share the parenting adventure and get the support they need from other new families in their neighborhood.

At a PEPS Newborn group, new parents meet, share, and learn in volunteer-facilitated sessions. Each meeting includes time for sharing parenting highs and lows, followed by a discussion of a topic related to the joys and challenges of parenting an infant. Meetings take place over 12 weeks rotating between group members homes. Meetings also include break time for informal socializing and connecting with other new parents.

PEPS is currently forming Newborn Daytime and Evening Groups for families with babies born in January in February. To sign up for a group or find out more, visit www.peps.org or call 206-547-8570.
