Hi there everyone!
I just wanted to check in and perhaps respond to comments made above. I appreciate the dialog and interest in STA.
In regards to Jeb29, what are your expectaions for our agency in regards to listing our agency? I'm assuming you want us to disclose more infomation about our agency in this listing? I think directing individuals to our website gives a clear and comprehensive understanding of our intention and purpose. I think short and sweet in a classified ad is more appropiate. There are many individuals that this agency is not the right fit for many reasons....I trust that they can and will research us further and make a personal decision based on their needs. In regards to "downscaling" our advertising, I don't believe we were ever upscaled...lol. We must rely on free on nearly free advertising.
@ biophile, thank you and well said....we are intended to be a community resource. Especially in these hard economic times community resource become so crucial. We are just one of the many options in the community, we both recommend and support other agencies.
@Rich Y, I am trying to understand your point of view? Let me give it a try...are you disapproving of the wording "we will provide" as opposed to something along the lines of "we will support you in". I can almost understand what your trying to say, but I don't resonate with "dependency on our agency" or "creating revenue" or 'making the client feel they aren't working hard enough". I agree with you that those are horrible traits for any agency organized around that thinking, and I do believe it's out there, but that is not our identity.
Thanks for your time, Karen

The need and usefulness of these organizations are well documented and in needed by many folks, but when they claim that they will provide :

resolution with your loved ones
emotional health for you and your children
satisfaction in your career
happiness and meaning in your life
and perhaps most importantly, relationship

Then they cross the line from being a help to those in need of an empathetic outside view, to creating a dependency on their agency, and creating a greater revenue, and making the patient feel that they are not working hard enough for their own mental health. I feel this is no different than faith healing and curing cancer with massage and herbal teas, and preying on those in desperation.

Seattle Therapy Alliance is a counseling organization established to provide affordable counseling for women in their journey into self-actualization.

We’d like to share with you an exciting development at Seattle Therapy Alliance. At the beginning of September, 75 new spots will be open for women who wish to receive affordable, long-term counseling at STA.

We want every one of those spots to be filled before September 1st, as it is our passionate wish that every woman who wants and needs support in her life can get the care that she deserves. Thus, we’re asking you to forward this information to as many people as you can—especially women who are struggling in some way, be it with loneliness, relationship problems, lack of direction, family of origin issues, poor body image or low self-esteem, among other things. There’s no reason a woman should suffer alone, and we’re confident we can help. So please take a moment to think carefully about who could benefit from our services and urge those women to check us out at: http://www.seattletherapyalliance.com or contact us directly at: 206.660.4395 or intake@seattletherapyalliance.com.

We are now actively building our Fall Wait List. Long-term, affordable, competent care is exceedingly rare, so we expect the spots to fill quickly; thus, we thank you for spreading the word to the women you love TODAY.

Up until now, our posts were more of a generalized listing ("Affordable Therapy for Women") but we found that often times, working people assume that they would not qualify for "affordable" or "low-cost" therapy. Many people who learn more about us are often surprised that we offer low-cost therapy regardless of income level. We have had many teachers, social workers, case managers, care-givers, etc. who have benefited greatly from our services so we thought it would be a good idea to periodically post an invitation specifically to women that work in these fields. These invitations are in no way meant to imply that social workers, teachers, or care-givers have issues beyond anyone else but rather that they are typically in positions where they feel burnt out, could use some support, but may not know that they qualify for our affordable services.

Someone did respond in the Ballard forum and said the same thing, there is an intern with no advertising budget. Even if I was looking for help, there's no way I could wade through all of that while I was waiting for it to get to the point. I think the intern needs to take some marketing/advertising classes and should perhaps become familiar with bullet points and the fact less can equal more.

I wonder why they ARE targeting social workers? Being that they use interns who are going to school, that seems strange.

Malia---If you want an answer, you'll have to contact them directly. They don't respond to posts (but I'm sure you figured that out).

I sent them a message that they should post to neighborhood blogs appropriately (e.g. post in the Classifieds section, not Forums) and finally received a reply. If you scan the other neighborhood blogs, this same posting is in all of them, mostly in the Forums (but sometimes in the Classifieds).

Apparently, they have an intern who is trying to do marketing on a $0 marketing budget. At least that's the excuse.

That they're targeting social workers is amusing to me, but I think it will remain a mystery.

Counseling for Social Workers

Are you a Social Worker in need of counseling but can’t afford it?
We provide affordable counseling regardless of your income.

Seattle Therapy Alliance is a counseling organization established to provide affordable counseling for women in their journey into self-actualization.

Research shows that counseling can lead to increased happiness, productive coping mechanisms, fulfilling relationships and even intergenerational health. So, even if the events of your life don’t change, your perspective on them will, as well as your coping skills, so that together with your counselor you can make your way to a more peaceful and meaningful life.

At Seattle Therapy Alliance, we offer more than counseling. We offer resolution with your loved ones, emotional health for you and your children, satisfaction in your career, happiness and meaning in your life…and perhaps most importantly, relationship…a haven from loneliness. All for the cost of a typical co-pay.

About Seattle Therapy Alliance

Located in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, STA was opened in 2009 with the two-fold vision of training graduate counseling students in psychotherapy and women’s issues while simultaneously making low-cost therapy available to adolescent girls and women.

We believe that a key to healing our wounded world lies in supporting women, the population disproportionately affected by physical and sexual abuse, economic instability and the weight of single parenting. Think about it: 70% of the persons who live in poverty in the United States are women and children. And, while women represent 50 percent of the world population, they perform nearly two-thirds of all the working hours, receive only one-tenth of the world income and own less than 1 percent of world property. There are very few places where women will get a break. This is one way we can help.

Why would I come to Seattle Therapy Alliance?

We’re low-fee…for ALL women: Unlike other agencies that have sliding fee scales based upon a client’s level of income, we will never ask you to disclose your income or expenses. You are eligible for our low-cost counseling regardless of your level of income. For many complex reasons, most women will never spend between $400 to $600 per month–the customary rate for counseling–on their healthcare needs, especially over an extended period of time, which many issues necessitate. Since our priority is simply to help women receive the care they deserve, we have always, and will always, make our services affordable for all women, without question.

We specialize in women’s issues: In addition to weekly individual supervision, the counselors at Seattle Therapy Alliance receive twice-monthly group trainings in issues related to women’s health and wellbeing. Topics include: Introduction to Gender Theory, Women & Psychology, Women & Their Bodies, Women & Sex, Women & Money, Women & God…and more. Why do we look at all these issues from a gendered perspective? Well, because there are unique gender-based struggles for women that double our rates of depression, anxiety and eating disorders, as well as other psychological problems. Women are overwhelmingly the recipients of oppression and victimization in our society, so we intentionally prepare our counselors to “inoculate” clients from the systemic issues that undermine their wellbeing, empowering them to grow and thrive amidst challenging life circumstances.

We have no limit on the number of sessions you can receive as a client at STA: Our commitment is to you and your healing. While many organizations have limited resources and will thus cap your benefits at a certain number of sessions, we want to see you stay with your counselor for as long as you are in need. That’s why we don’t sign non-compete clauses with our practitioners; we encourage them to continue their work with you wherever they establish their mental health practice after their in/externship at Seattle Therapy Alliance.

I can't say for sure but probably the backlash has just been in the forums. I'd say most of them get ignored. One Ballard one got kind of entertaining in a highly offensive way. Probably the OP never comes back to read so it's all a passive-aggressive attempt that doesn't work because OP keeps 'em coming.

If you do send a note, let us know how it goes.

Has anyone sent an email to these folks? Or has all the backlash been in the forums? I plan to send them a note suggesting that they not abuse the neighborhood forums, but I won't hold my breath for an answer, much less an apology.

Good lord, people. I realize I might not have had enough sleep last night but can anyone recognize what belongs in the classified section? Yes, even therapy. And yes, I think most of us see it spread throughout all the local forums almost to a spam like level.
