Its also a good chance that the delivery driver was being followed and watched as they stopped and made deliveries. I've heard of this suspicion with Amazon fresh orders, who's big trucks are easy to spot and follow, especially for those early morning deliveries.

Labor and Industries issues the license and you can check it here:
https://fortress.wa.gov/lni/bbip/Search.aspx
Keep in mind that there is no contractor license in this state only a contractor registration. The registration does not allow any plumbing work to be done without a plumber license in the pocket of whoever does the work. Unfortunately, the licenses look the same green print on white card. One says contractor registration the other says Plumber (journeyman, residential, or trainee). Anybody can be a contractor or trainee but only an individual can be a plumber that has years of certified experience and passes the state test.

There is a new bill in the WA Senate SB6476 Unlicensed Plumbers - Consumer Protection that needs some consumer awareness. Check it out here:

Near Greenwood Park and 90th, Thursday night or early Friday morning:
Our produce delivery (one week's worth of produce) was stolen from our backyard doorway.
The thief had to open the garden gate and walk around the house in order to grab the large tupperware.
This also means that the thief knew when and what was being delivered.
We are more concerned about someone watching our houses and schedules than losing our veggies.
We have reported this to the police, installed visual surveillance aids and alerted all our neighbors (some of whom are home all day)

Please be vigilant and if anyone has any clues, please contact us!

I am looking for a one bedroom apartment for myself and my two well behaved dogs. One of them is a 10 year old labrador who mostly just likes to hang out at home and the other is a 3 year old Brittany who goes to work with me nearly every day. I manage a dog day care, train dogs and compete in both K9 Nosework and Agility with my dogs. I think they and I would make great tenants. Im looking for a one bedroom apartment on either ground level or up only one non steep flight of stairs since I would prefer to be a long time tenant and my older dog does have some hip issues that though well managed now will likely get worse over time so I would like to be prepared. A mother in law apartment or daylight basement would be ideal-as would a bit of a yard for a potty area, though both dogs are walked regularly so that is not an issue.
I am middle aged (yikes), quiet and will be newly single so Im looking for a place that I can make my new nest. I work fairly long hours both in the daycare and teaching and spend quite a bit of time away on weekends at Agility trials. I would prefer Ballard, Phinney, Crown Hill, Greenlake, Greenwood or Fremont but wouldn't rule the perfect place somewhere else out. I would happily exchange some training for your own dog or some pet sitting for part of the rent. I would prefer something with a separate bedroom and living space but a large studio style apartment could also work. Windows would be nice. A full size stove, internet/cable accessability and a full bath would be ideal. A garden area to piddle around in would be fun too but obviously not a requirement. I would prefer to pay under 750 but would definitely consider a bit more for the right price or some sort of swap. I'd really like to continue going to regular training and competitions so my budget needs to allow for that and since I don't spend a huge amount of time at home I would prefer not to spend a small fortune on rent each month. I would consider a house share but only a shared kitchen-separate living and bath room would be required as I am a long way from being a college student:).
Thanks for your consideration.

I found Marie's obituary in the archives. It is interesting that someone with quite a legacy had such a simple end to her life. I guess as the story goes, her cook had the original recipe for the Bleu cheese dressing and she just marketed it.
I am going to try and see if I can contact her nieces in Vancouver to see if they desire
to have this bit of history.

Article from an Emmett Watson Seattle Times column, 1993:

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19930829&slug=1718294

"I have been in love with one Marie in my life, although I only met her once. She owned Marie's Cafe out on Northwest 85th and Greenwood.

You see, that is where Marie's salad dressings were born. I have always loved Marie's dressings, which were made in the basement of Marie's Cafe. It was a wondrous time, back in the 1950s."

(Error in the 1st sentence! N 85th doesn't become NW 85th until it hits First Avenue.)

Here is the picture in my Avatar
I am a history buff and after researching I felt this was a real piece of history for Marie's beginnings. Just not sure if the interest is still alive there in Greenwood or whether her relatives would appreciate it.

Thanks for the link to the blog - now I understand much more about the rocks! We are looking forward to the finish of this artwork. Public art has always carried controversy, in my understanding. This piece has the potential to be interesting, and changing, which is good.

Our 1989 white Toyota Camry was stolen from the 4000 block of Whitman Ave North in Fremont/Wallingford overnight on Sunday. It's a 4 door, lic # 271NFB. If you happen to see it parked around the neighborhood, I'd really appreciate a note as a reply here. Thanks everyone!

The rocks are not concrete, they are "Glacial Erratic."

The lights are taking so long because "...there are many technical hurdles to overcome."

The lights were supposed to be working by the end of December, but that goal was missed.

dfh - that's a great idea but unfortunately all we're stuck with is concrete waste on a stick. If there are any local artists who want to take up the project for free though I say we let them have at it. Of course you'd need permission from the city. Good luck with that.

When my daughter saw the rocks going in, she thought it was a great idea. HOWEVER, what she thought was that the rocks were going to be just a base for the impressive flagpole that Fire Station has. She thought that would be quite fitting: that the rocks at the base would in a sense represent 9/11 and the flag pole rising out of it would be wonderful.

I think it's too bad the artist didn't have that much vision. Maybe something can be salvaged working with what is already there rather than just leave it the way it is now...lights working or not? Maybe it can be modified to somehow actually mean something and be something we can be proud of?

The 1% for art points out a serious problem with putting budget requirements like this into ordinance. The government needs to be able to make adjustments in spending and priorities depending on the fiscal realities each year. As much as I like art, I would rather see projects like the Linden St repaving completed than new art. Our basic infrastructure is in terrible shape and times aren't as flush.

Do you really expect to get your money's worth when ignorant legislators are forced to spend our money on art? There's a homeless guy in Fremont who stacks rocks one on top of each other for free. I bet if you gave him a flashlight and $90,000 he'd sit out in front of the station 24 hours/day and light it up for you for 15 years.

The 1% for the Arts program is government overrun at it's finest.

I hate to say this, but I can't for the life of me look at that stack of rocks and think of it as "art". Lights or not, I still can't believe something like that could cost $90,000 and/or be called "art". Practically anything else would look better, IMO.

I wish there could have been something like a sculpture of a firefighter, something that could cause your heart to swell with pride when you looked at it, not something that looks like it's waiting for trash pick up.

I know it's only my opinion and I don't criticize anyone who might love it, but I just can't seem to make myself even like it. (I have a daughter who is a firefighter and for all I know she might love the "art" piece, all I know is I for sure don't).

Most entertaining tidbit, the bid increased $5k when artist decided to make it more green. Is that what we are facing with our project?
