  • Help create new rules for multi-family housing in the neighborhood
    March 20, 10:00am
    The Seattle City Council wants to create new rules for multi-family housing options. That includes townhouses, rowhouses and apartments. Councilmember Sally J. Clark is holding a special meeting on March 20 at Greenwood's Taproot Theatre.

    "It’s time to change the way we design and shape new lowrise buildings in Seattle. City Council will change the code to make quality, sustainable, well-designed multifamily housing that synchs with the neighborhoods where they are built – and we need your help! This is a prime opportunity for Councilmembers to hear your feedback."

    The meeting is from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 at Taproot, 204 N. 85th St. Council staff will highlight some of the hot-button issues, such as parking requirements, building heights, density limits, code simplification, and design review requirements. Clark promises plenty of time set aside for hearing from constituents. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.

  • NW Chamber Chorus presents 'Poetic Voices'

    The Northwest Chamber Chorus presents its "Poetic Voices" concert at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 20, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N.

    "In this concert where poetry becomes music, the Northwest Chamber Chorus will feature Randall Thompson’s Frostiana, 'seven country songs' on texts by Robert Frost. Other poets include Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, Carl Sandburg, Lord Byron and e.e. cummings. Other composers include Z. Randall Stroupe, Normand Lockwood, Eric William Barnum, Neil Ginsburg and Charles Stanford.

    "The Chamber Chorus has long been recognized as one of the finest choirs in the Pacific Northwest and recently received a proclamation from the City in honor of its 40th Anniversary in Seattle. The 40-voice ensemble is critically acclaimed for its performances of the best classical choral music."

    "Assemble for a Cause" invites people to the shop every Monday night in March from 6-8 p.m. Participants will cut and iron fabric, sew from a simple pattern, and donate the cotton hats to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, to distribute to patients who've lost their hair from cancer treatment.

    Assemble will provide all materials, instruction and refreshments; donations at the door are welcome. Assemble encourages participants across the country to sew at home and mail hats to the shop (email info@assembleshop.com for patterns). A drop box will be available for fabric donations and completed hats until March 31st.

    Seattle Parks and Recreation is hosting an open house on the Sandel Park play area renovations from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.
    The public is encouraged to attend, meet the design team, and learn about the changes that are coming to this park. The renovation project, identified in the Parks and Green Spaces Levy, will provide new play equipment for children ages 2 -12, site improvements to enhance safety, and access improvements to facilitate use by all park visitors.

    "An acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and composer, Carolyn Cruso performs a diverse array of original tunes and songs as well as traditional music on hammered dulcimer, flute, guitar and voice.     Mary Holscher, Ph.D. and Paul Finley, M.A. have extensive training and experience with Sue Johnson’s Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and education for couples. They have been married for 26 years and are owners of Creative Commitment Northwest, PS.

    "The book, which combines attachment theory and systems thinking, is designed for couples to read themselves. This nine week evening class uses a newly developed curriculum designed by the author to guide couples with each conversation in the book.     Seattle-based photographer Steven Fey will speak about his passion for photographing wild places in the North Cascades, including the Wild Sky Wilderness. An Alpine climber, Steven has ascended all of the major Cascade peaks in Oregon and Washington. Steven is committed to film and traditional photographic processes, rather than digital imaging, which allow him to more accurately portray the light and colors found in nature.
