About the PhinneyWood Blog

The PhinneyWood Blog began in July 2008 when it became clear Phinney Ridge and Greenwood needed a daily news source. Dale Steinke and Doree Armstrong, both Phinney Ridge residents with decades of journalistic experience, took the lead and created a beloved and necessary asset for our community.

Sharing a slice of land between Ballard and Green Lake and a main drag of Greenwood Avenue to the north and Phinney Avenue to the south, there is no single word or phrase to describe this unique melding of diverse neighborhoods, but the former Greenwood-Phinney Chamber of Commerce was close with its proud slogan, “Just a little off center.”

That’s the idea behind PhinneyWood.com. It’s a daily news blog that’s designed to be a community resource — a place where you can learn about community events, business district happenings, and the changes happening in our beautiful neighborhood. Most of all, the aim is to bring positivity and community-building to Phinney Ridge and Greenwood.

After more than 10 year of running PhinneyWood.com, Doree and Dale graciously passed the baton to the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) in 2019. The PNA is grateful for all Doree and Dale have dedicated to our community and feel honored to keep the blog running.

If you see something interesting in the neighborhood, please let us know. It could be a new business, an upcoming event, or just something interesting that your neighbors should know about. Just drop us a note at [email protected].
