NW Chamber Chorus performs ‘Director’s Choice’ concert in Phinney Ridge June 5 and 11

Northwest Chamber Chorus celebrates 10 years with Director Mark Kloepper with two concerts with special guest Jay Mabin on blues harmonica. The concerts are at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N.

The highly regarded 40-voice Northwest Chamber Chorus closes its 48th Concert Season with two performances of its “Director’s Choice” concert. This varied program celebrates the 10th Anniversary of Mark Kloepper’s tenure as Music Director of the NWCC and features favorites chosen by him, the singers and audience from the past ten years of programs.

Included are Der Geist hilft by J.S. Bach with organ continuo, Ave Maria by Franz Biebl and Bogoroditse Devo by Sergei Rachmaninoff, I Have Had Singing by Steven Sametz, porky & porkie by Neil Ginsberg on a poem by e.e. cummings, Voix Celestes by Gilbert Alcock, and two pieces from Liebeslieder Waltze by Johannes Brahms:Ein kleiner , hübscher Vogel wär and Nein, es ist nicht auszukommen.

Also on the program are spirituals My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord arranged by Moses Hogan and Ezekiel Saw de Wheel arranged by William L. Dawson, Southern folk hymn Down in the River to Pray arranged by Marc Hafso, and Shaker song, Ye Followers of the Lamb arranged by Edwin Earle Ferguson, folk songs Oro My Currach arranged by Neil Gisberg, and Home on the Range arranged by Mark Hayes with harmonica solo by blues artist Jay Mabin.

Tickets are $23, or $18 for senior citizens and singers of established groups. Students ages 6-18 are admitted free. Tickets are available online or by calling 206-523-1196.
