Halloween happenings in Phinney Ridge and Greenwood this weekend

by | Oct 22, 2014

Here’s our neighborhood’s main Halloween events this weekend. (If you know of more, please put them below in Comments or email us.)

The Hunger Goblin’Trick or Treat will be along Phinney and Greenwood avenues from 12-3 p.m. Saturday. Costumed kids can trick or treat at participating merchants. Donate a can of food or purchase a Hunger Goblin’ sticker for $2 to help support the Greenwood Food Bank. Stickers are available in advance at Umpqua Bank, 7120 Greenwood Ave. N., or at donation stations along the trick-or-treating route. Stickers are not required to trick-or-treat, but are encouraged to help those less fortunate. The Hunger Goblin will be available for photos at Umpqua Bank (bring your own camera).

Frankenstein-Spiderman

Frankenstein hands out candy to trick-or-treaters in front of the 74th Street Ale House.

City Fruit and the Greenwood Food Bank, 9041 Greenwood Ave. N., are hosting a cider pressing and food drive from 12-4 p.m. Saturday. In exchange for a bag of food or a $10 donation to the food bank, you’ll receive a growler of fresh-pressed apple cider. You can also tour the food bank and there will be treats and Halloween activities for young trick-or-treaters.

American Dance Institute, 8001 Greenwood Ave. N., is turning its studio into a Halloween Wonderland with 200 flying bats, bales of hay, dancing scarecrows, cats and ballerina dolls, ghosts, a mossy branch laden cemetery and giant spiders.

Halloween on Holman is from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Carkeek Plaza and Holman Road Square shopping centers at NW 100th Street and Holman Road. Kids in costume and accompanied by an adult can trick-or-treat at participating stores. Pick up a card showing all participating merchants at the tent in front of Elements Massage and Karin’s Beauty Supplies. In addition to wrapped candy, each merchant will offer a coupon or special for adults, along with a sticker for the card. Turn in your sticker-filled cards to enter a drawing for gift cards from neighborhood stores. The fifth annual event is also a food drive for the Greenwood and Ballard Food Banks, so please bring non-perishable goods to donate.
