City council meeting tonight on proposed parks funding

Seattle City Council will hear public comments tonight about Mayor Ed Murray’s proposal to provide $54 million in annual, major-maintenance funding for Seattle’s parks, including Woodland Park Zoo.  The Council will decide whether to send the proposal to voters in August.
The hearing begins at 6 p.m. tonight (Monday) at Seattle City Hall, 600 4th Ave.
The Greenwood Community Council has drafted a statement in support of the plan, particularly because it wants to see funds set aside for development of the proposed park at 81st and Greenwood, next to the Greenwood Library. Seattle Parks purchased the land two years ago and the businesses are moving out, but if development funds aren’t set aside, then the land will sit vacant until funds are found.
