Man assaulted and robbed in Greenwood

October 18th, 2012 · Comments

Seattle Police say a man was assaulted and robbed by two men after he wouldn’t give them money Wednesday night. More information from the SPD Blotter.

A man was assaulted and robbed by two unknown men last night at North 80th and Greenwood Avenue North. At about 9:00 pm, the man was walking in the 8000 Block of Greenwood when he was approached by a stranger who asked him for spare change. The victim told the man he didn’t have any. The suspect then struck the victim several times in the face. Another man then approached and also began hitting the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the sidewalk. Both suspects continued to hit and kick the victim. At one point, one of the suspects took the victim’s wallet. Both suspects then fled southbound.

Officers contacted the victim and conducted an area search for the suspects and any possible witnesses. Unfortunately they were not located. The Seattle Fire Department treated the victim for his injuries and he was later checked out at a local hospital. The description of the suspects is very limited. The first is described as a black male, in his twenties, 5′-9″ 180 pounds. The second suspect is described only as a male wearing a blue puffy jacket and a black beanie. This case will be assigned to the Robbery Unit for follow up.

That is a pretty crowded area in terms of car traffic, even at 9 p.m. No one saw how the attackers fled?

  2. Susan Mullen says:

Hi, all. I was thinking the same thing — 9PM, there should have been someone around. This is scary. I sometimes walk home from something at church that gets out at that time. One of the things I “count on” for safety is the fact that there are other people out and about then.

  3. GreenLou says:

I live within sight and sound of the crime, but I was watching a movie and didn’t hear anything until the fire truck came. They even had the sniffing dogs come for this one, so I knew it was serious. Sorry for not paying better attention – this should be a safe neighborhood where we all watch out for one another.

  4. Nic Angela says:

That’s really too bad. I often study at the coffee shops nearby and sometimes at night. Scary. :(

  5. Number Six says:

That’s kinda surprising, considering TDM is still open at that time and Diva is just closing….? Aren’t there still ballet classes across the street at that time too?

    Juts keep it Green’hood please….

  7. Block Watcher says:

This is bad news and seems to be happening all over Seattle. I hope the police can do something about it.

  8. Kaleb says:

9pm, at 80th and greenwood, man gets beat up and robbed. NOONE was there, OR saw?? This is what really urks me about this town. Everyone is so caught up in their own selfish, ego driven lives, they don’t see a man beat up and robbed at a main intersection, at a busy time. How? Huh, HOW?! And if someone DID see it, they wrote it off. “Someone will help him, I’m too busy, I’m scared!” Fuq you seattle, you selfish bleached blond, fuq you.

  9. Rob H says:

Was there last night after police, fire and canine had already arrived. Victim was very verbal and animated. Wished I could have been there to do something. Walk dogs in this area a lot, used to live on 80th near 3rd NW. Certainly would not ignore an assault in progress. They can happen fast and in places that are generally pretty quiet, as this area is, and they are scary, but there are things to be done.

Please be aware and alert people. Use your cell phones. Take pictures. Note licenses. Call 911.

Neighborhood patrol time? I’m up for it. Anyone else?

  12. anotherneighbor says:

was it actually at the intersection? Diva has cameras, if they were in the right place…

My partner thinks she may have seen Puffy Jacket near the library between 8-9. Says he didn’t look familar to the neighborhood, and that he was black – but very rough memory… and that’s all she’s got.

  13. Ruby says:

    I’m in, too.

  14. phinneyfun says:

Kaleb, goodness, relax! I am quite sure nobody was just standing there saying, oh, who cares. I’ve seen people trip and fall in this neighborhood and immediately folks are there to help them. This incident may have happened near the intersection but could’ve taken place in an alley or other “just out of sight” area like behind a store. Otherwise guaranteed the jerks wouldn’t have gotten away with it.

  15. Block Watcher says:

If it happened near the corner, it might have been visible to passing cars. If it was north of 80th, then most of that section is closed at night.

  16. Mr. Man says:

I’m in the area a lot and will definitely keep an eye open. Spread the word around G’Wood to be on the lookout.

  17. Block Watcher says:

The police need to use decoys on Greenwood to catch these muggers in the act.
