Green Bean moving yet again, and plans one more move next year

August 31st, 2012 · Comments

The Green Bean Coffeehouse, which was burned down in an October 2009 arson, moved temporarily inside the Greenwood Sip & Ship and then into the former McDonald’s building at 8533 Greenwood Ave. N., is moving yet again.

The Green Bean will move two doors south, into Sanctuary Church’s offices, at 8515 Greenwood Ave. N., beginning Sept. 24. Hours will be limited. The coffee shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

But next spring, the Green Bean plans to move into a new building that will be built between its current shop and Razzi’s Pizzeria. The new building will be part of Piper Village, which includes The Sedges apartments and retail space a block west of Greenwood Avenue North.

Any word what will happen to the old McDonalds? Is that going to be torn down as part of the construction then?

  2. MonkeyPilot says:

I recall that they were planning to extend the street from Piper Village through to Greenwood Ave again. A little searching led me to the original plan, including:

Phase two should break ground in 2009. In that phase, the McDonald’s site on Greenwood will
become two new apartment and retail buildings with about 10,000 square feet. That work
should be complete three years after construction begins

Moving “Next Spring”? Ambitious construction schedule…to me “next spring” would mean 2013.

  4. Alan says:

With all the vacant retail space in Greenwood, the last thing we need is another building!

  5. Karl says:

Does this mean there won’t be pedestrian access between the buildings towards Piper Village? That’d actually be a bad thing for the business spaces there.

  6. I want that old McDonalds building. Dibs!

@James: Looks like they’ll be tearing down the old McDonalds in favor of a new building that won’t have all that pesky “character”.

I, for one, welcome our new condo overlords. Can’t wait for the Walmart.
