Northwest Chamber Chorus performs “Americana” concert at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church

Northwest Chamber Chorus performs two “Americana” concerts in March. The first concert is on March 18 at Green Lake United Methodist Church; the second is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N.

This heartfelt program features arrangements of hymns, spirituals and folksongs from early America. Selections from this concert will be sung by the Chamber Chorus during their July 2012 tour to Slovakia and Hungary.
Arrangements of African American Spirituals include Ain’a That Good News! by William Dawson, Motherless Child by Craig Hella Johnson, Now Let Us Sing! by Gwyneth Walker, and My Lord, What a Morning by HT Burleigh. Arrangements of rousing hymns from The Sacred Harp and Southern Harmony traditions include Down in the River to Pray by Marc Hafso, The Road Home by Stephen Paulus,McKay by Carol Barnett, Hark I Hear the Harps Eternal and Wondrous Love by Alice Parker.
Also in the program are folksongs Buffalo Gals arranged by Bob Chilcott and Shenandoah arranged by James Erb, traditional hymns Praise to the Lord by F. Melius Christiansen and The Word Was God arranged by Rosephanye Powell, and American classics Circus Band by Charles Ives, Hard Times Come No More by Stephen Foster, and the Shaker song Ye Followers of the Lamb arranged by Edwin Earle Ferguson.
