Fire destroys Greenwood house

by | Feb 29, 2012

Update: Seattle Fire says the damage to the house and contents is estimated at $145,000. You can read the SFD Fire Line blog post about the fire here.
Earlier: Two dogs died this morning in a house fire at the corner of 4th Ave NW and NW 95th Street.

Kyle Moore with Seattle Fire says that when firefighters arrived on the scene at 401 NW 95th St., flames were shooting 20 feet in the air from a single-story home with a basement. It took them an hour to knock down the flames and they continue to monitor for flare-ups.

The house is a total loss. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
Moore tells us that five people lived there, but only four were home at the time. They escaped, along with two dogs, without injury. Two other dogs did not survive.

We spoke with the residents, who are renters of the home, who say they escaped with literally nothing. The Red Cross has been called in and will be putting the victims up in a hotel tonight.
Thanks to Megan, David, Lynn and Greg for the tips, and Greg for the first two photos!
