Umpqua Bank at 7116 Greenwood Ave. N. has been hit by vandals twice in the last two weeks. First, vandals etched graffiti into one of the bank’s front windows. Then on Friday night, it happened again to another five windows.
Store Manager Jo Figurelli tells us she was in the process of getting bids to replace the glass in the first window when the other five were tagged.

A wee bit of irony here. The bank that peddles to the 99pc being vandalized by the 99pc.
With total seriousness, I hate vandalism and punk-ass graffiti. I hope that a passer by might introduce the etcher’s head to the plate glass window and extract some “social justice”.

Over the years, similar gibberish has been scratched into almost every store front on Phinney Ave and Greenwood Ave. There’s not much hope for the non-creative losers that do this vandalism.

Any chance their internal security cameras got anything? Perhaps the community would be interested in purchasing some outdoor ones in high graffiti areas?

Grant, they are a for profit bank with fees as high as Bank of America they just want your dollar over anything else
vandalism is bad and they should be found and made to pay damages

I would suggest that the bank should deploy a couple of cameras pointing out these windows to catch the scumbags in the act.

It would be great to catch these losers. The graffiti problem has shot up in the Phinney Greenwood corridor. I’ve lived here 20 years and it wasn’t this bad a decade ago. Think how long the zoo mural on the underpass leading from 65th down to Aurora and Green Lake lasted completely unscatched and then about 5-6 years ago began to be spoiled by graffiti; now it’s just a mass of tags.

This really needs to stop and these punks need to be brought to justice. These actions degrade our neighborhood and lessen the quality of life for everyone. Is there no pride, no fear of authority?
As for Umpqua being “for profit” – of course it is, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Does Other realize that even this blog is “for profit”? (Note the little sidebar ads). Does Other realize that every storefront along Phinney is “for profit”?
I was having fun with Umpqua b/c of the lengths they go to hide that they’re actually a BANK (again, not a bad thing!). If someone from another planet (or outside 98103) were to walk by, they might think it was a coffee shop, community center, or an art supply store.

Instead of replacing the windows how about hiring a local glass artist to modify the grafitti into window art, tying it into the community?

The vandals are idiots with nothing to offer the community.

Zak & Zoe had a boulder thrown through their side window, breaking the window last Wednesday night.

Grant, I’m with you 100 percent. Unfortunately, I think there really is no pride and no fear of authority.

These businesses should look into getting protective coatings for the glass. The coating gets scratched but not the glass and the coating can be replaced relatively inexpensively.

I deleted many comments by Stinkmaster on several PhinneyWood posts, because they violated our commenting rules. Thanks.
