I drove past the two empty expanses of asphalt and aging buildings now abandoned. Sad to see. Hopefully Fred Meyer parent, Kroger Corp, will create something nice out of it. It’s a crying shame that all of the “neighborhood activists” succeeded in derailing Kroger’s original plan for a really nice multi-use development there. The countless delays from the absurd level of nitpicking at the design plan has now left us with a much less attractive alternative than they started with. Had they been able to proceed in a timely manner we would have probably been enjoying a new development there over a year ago. The Perfect became the enemy of the Good and we’re all going to pay for it.

Are there drawings somewhere online that we can look at to see the plan that is actually going to be built?

I couldn’t agree more. the multi use development would have been a badly needed boost for the neighbourhood. the extra density would have been great for local businesses, provided more reason for sidewalks to be installed, and those extra eyes on the streets would reduce crime. Now we have a big box store in our neighbourhood that will mean more cars less people around at night and less character. Bravo “activists”.
