If you hear cannon fire on Friday, it’s just practice firing at Magnolia’s Fort Lawton

February 23rd, 2012 · 2 Comments

If you hear cannon fire on Friday and Saturday, don’t worry, it’s just the official closing of Magnolia’s Fort Lawton after 111 years.

The U.S. Army will fire cannons between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days. Friday is practice for Saturday’s official closing ceremony. The Army will ceremonially return the property to the city of Seattle.

The public is invited to the ceremony. There will be bus tours of Fort Lawton and Discovery Park, and guest speakers such as Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, and Congressman Jim McDermott.

For more information on Fort Lawton and the closing ceremonies, see our sister site Magnolia Voice.

So just to be clear, if we hear cannon fire, do not think the Brits are back or anything like that.

What would we do without this blog?

How about some real news for a change.

Thanks for the heads up! Now when I hear loud noises coming from over there, I won’t worry that it’s Saul’s giant ego exploding!

Maybe I’ll even bring the kids over there to watch.

Does anyone know what the tour consists of? I’ve always been curious about all those boarded up houses up there.
