Bluebird Microcreamery, which just moved into the corner of 74th and Greenwood a couple of weeks ago, is getting a fully-restored 1957 DIVCO milk truck shipped from Muscatine, Iowa. Bluebird will use the truck to deliver ice cream around Seattle, and for private events.
The truck arrives today at about 3 p.m. To celebrate, Bluebird is giving customers a free second scoop with the purchase of the first when the truck arrives.
Oh, and by the way, a TV crew will be on hand filming the event for an upcoming television show, which we’re not allowed to divulge, so stay tuned!

I drove past the truck today, it’s fantastic. Reminds me of when I was a child and my father drove a delivery truck for the “LA Pie Company”.

Must be a slow news day…. this is hardly newsworthy.
What does this thing get, 5 miles per gallon?

And it was purchased from WAY out of state…way to keep the $ local….NOT! And just in time for the snow to fly.

Welcome to the neighborhood, I LOVE the truck ! I appreciate these local news stories – no matter how busy or slow the regional news is.

To the user “Outside The Box,” re: disparaging comments about purchasing from out-of-state…
Something tells me that this isn’t the kind of thing that he could just walk down to the neighborhood dealership and pick up. How many of these trucks even exist in the world, I wonder. Why don’t you think before you knock someone, next time? Have you been to this place, yet? Everything about it is hyper-local, to a fault.
Glad that everyone else can keep things positive around here!

I’m pretty sure if there was an appropriate vehicle in state the business would purchase it. I mean it probably doesn’t make good business sense to pay for a truck to be driven almost all the way across the country if you could get one in Ballard. I think this shop makes an excellent addition to the neighborhood and I’m looking forward to seeing the truck all over the place.

FYI: Rest assured that this milk truck is one of a kind. There are none exactly like it anywhere else on earth, let alone the Pacific Northwest. There are NO other so beautifully renovated genuine 1957 Divco milk trucks in existence outfitted for bringing ice cream like this one is. Bringing an American heirloom vehicle like this to grace Seattle highways is surely a net cultural gain for us. Significantly, this vehicle IS the second such period-vehicle brought by Bluebird to serve Seattle: the first, a lovely and rare 1959 Gruman, was snatched-up locally.

CORRECTION: “There are none exactly like it anywhere else [in the universe]…”
ADDENDUM:
It’s my understanding that Bluebird’s Divco truck WAS locally sourced… right here on Earth.
