Retired astronaut to be grand marshal of 2011 Greenwood Seafair Parade

by | Nov 13, 2010

Next year’s Greenwood Seafair Parade is set for Wednesday, July 27, with retired Washington state astronaut Dr. Bonnie J. Dunbar as grand marshal. The parade’s theme is “Greenwood Takes Flight!”
Dr. Dunbar was president and CEO of the Museum of Flight for five years before recently becoming executive director of Wings Over Washington, a museum-affiliated organization. Dr. Dunbar’s new role is to develop the museum’s west-side campus, including fundraising for the Museum’s new Space Gallery, future Air Transport Gallery, and supporting the museum’s application for one of the retiring Space Shuttles.
The Greenwood Seafair Parade is the oldest neighborhood Seafair parade with about 100 entrants, including floats, bands, drill teams, the Seafair Pirates, and school groups.
