Greenwood Food Bank urgently needs holiday food

The Volunteers of America Greenwood Food Bank urgently needs donations of holiday food to meet the needs of an increasing number of clients.
“This time last year we had seven palettes of holiday food, this year we only have two. Demand has been increasing and we are struggling to meet the need,” Patty Leach, Program Manager at the Greenwood Food Bank, said in a press release, adding that the food bank had an unprecedented number of clients visiting the food bank last month.
“In one month, our numbers grew to an additional 1,000 individuals served. We are currently serving 4,000 individuals each month. I have never seen that type of growth at our Food Bank.”
Fifty percent of the food bank’s clients are children and seniors. Leach said each $1 donation can purchase six meals. The food bank needs all kinds of nutritious food, as well as holiday items, especially frozen turkeys.
You can make a donation online, or send a check to Volunteers of America, 9041 Greenwood Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103. You can drop off food donations at the food bank from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and every second Friday of the month until 8 p.m.
Here’s Leach explaining the food bank’s needs.
