Old Fire Station 21 comes down

August 26th, 2010 · 7 Comments

The old Fire Station 21 at Greenwood Avenue North and North 73rd Street is coming down.

The Defenders of Greenwood moved five blocks south to the corner of Greenwood and North 68th Street, where they are currently living in industrial trailers, and Engine 21 is housed in a heavy-duty tent.

The old fire station will be rebuilt on the original site. Construction on the two-story station is expected to take about a year.

What other structures are coming down? The Land Use notice indicated that a house next to the fire station would be demolished.

The house directly behind the station to the east is slated to be demolished. We’re told it will come down next week.

Wow, even the fire station is being gentrified!

As of the end of week one we are at 100% recycled on any thing that has left the site . and are trying to keep it that way .

It is too bad that the Defenders of Greenwood have to live in what appears to be a medium-security prison until their new home is finished!

    Awesome! Love it!

    Mekon,
If you would have been in the old place, where they are now is a lot nicer and the new one is going to be what they should have had all along
