Friday night’s annual Seattle Summer Streets, combined with the monthly Art Up Artwalk, brought thousands of people to the neighborhood for a stroll down Greenwood Avenue, which was closed to cars for 22 blocks.

Where are the pedals on that bike?

Pint & Dale performed at Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Cafe as part of the regular Pacific NW Folklore Society concerts.

The Green Bean Coffeehouse officially reopened last month, but they held their grand opening celebration Friday night.

Hejira performed in front of Art on the Ridge.

Children got to play on the kids obstacle course.

Music Center of the NW introduced children to new instruments.

For a suggested donation of $2, you could enter the Kitten Kissin’ Booth in front of PAWS Cat City and pet some kitties.

Artist Yvonne Palermo just opened her new studio inside the Greenwood Collective. Her art expresses her struggle with chronic pain and the healthcare system.

As always, the Bubbleman was a huge hit.

And he blew the BIGGEST. BUBBLE. EVER.

Thanks to Mike Veitenhans for some of the photos!

I love the ArtWalk. What I don’t love: all of these yuppies who take up all of the street parking in the area, with their giant SUVs.
Note to self: don’t leave home after work on ArtWalk days.

Why don’t they close the street for every art walk?

Why don’t we close that street every Friday!

This is my complaint too, Jon. All of the people that want to come to the neighborhood to walk the street end up causing a true traffic headache…especially for those of us one block from Greenwood. We finally had to block off our driveway to keep people from parking in it.

Next year they should block off the street only on Greenwood. It is very inconvenient for those of us in the 65th/ 67th and Phinney area who could not park in front of our own homes and there weren’t even any activities down this way! Next year it should just be north of 70th on Greenwood!

They HAVE to block off Phinney at 65th in order to keep drivers headed northbound, who may be unaware of the event, from colliding head-on with it when they go around the curve from Phinney to Greenwood with no way to escape! People can at least turn left or right on 65th at the light. Closing Greenwood only north of 70th would channel all that traffic down narrow residential side streets. I really don’t think that’s a good idea.

It was charming & the people who participated had a great time. It was alot of neighbors & kids, mixed in with the artwalkers, connecting with the neighborhood businesses & artists. This was the kind of event people from other neighborhoods truly envy us for. Loved the Academy of Dance teaching that hip hop routine in the street to anyone that wanted to join in. It won’t seem like such a hassle if you relax and participate.

This was such a fun event! I feel like it’s worth the one night’s inconvenience for driving and parking in the neighborhood. I was neat to see so many different ages represented. I loved the exhibit at Assemble and the little boy I saw with a half apron tied at one shoulder and his hand in the pocket gets a best fashion award from me.
