Two ransacked Hondas appear overnight in Phinney

July 31st, 2010 · 12 Comments

Stephen sent us pictures of two cars that look like they’ve been stolen and torn apart:

Two vehicles appeared overnight on 1st Ave NW between 73rd and 74th. They have parts removed and the interiors appear ransacked…Maybe they were stolen in the same neighborhood. One red Honda Civic with the trunk removed, and one green Honda Civic with taillights removed.

Seems pretty obvious that somewhere there is a rear ended honda civic that will soon be wearing these stolen parts.

Something to discuss at next Tuesday’s Night Out block party.

If I caught someone doing this to my car, their kneecaps would cease to function.

So…have the police been notified so they can contact the owners?

I just saw a post on Greenlake moms yahoo group about the green car. I sent her an email to look at this site.

Good news! Yes, I reported this to the police as well as Phinneywood. The owner of the red Honda was contacted by the police, and they came by this morning to retrieve their car. It was stolen in the neighborhood around 85th and the road down to Golden Gardens. Let’s hope the green Honda’s owners were also notified.

This happened to our red Civic some years ago, only they took all of the front body panels, hood, bumper, headlights, the works. Car was totaled. They caught the guy who did it (and at least a hundred other cars). Hopefully they’ll nail this creep before he gets too many more.

Yes, thank you PhinneyWood! I was forwarded this article by a neighbor Sat afternoon and was able to walk the 6 blocks to claim my car and tell the police where my car was (unfortunately, the car wouldn’t start so got it towed today up to Tony’s on Greenwood). I was “lucky” and all they stole were my tail lights! (and not too much damage except for steering column & window). Love this blog and neighbors looking out for one another. Thank you!

Yep. The fact that they needed a red boot lid but the lights from the green car would seem to indicate that it’s a red Civic of the same year as the green one.

It’s not so much the “creep” who needs to be caught but whatever body shop regularly “orders” parts in this manner. It wouldn’t surprise me to find that the owner of the damaged car is innocent in this case and he (or his insurer) will be charged for new factory replacement parts.

I wonder how they were able to do this auto body work (at night) without being spotted by the neighbors?

  • 11 imaw // Aug 5, 2010 at 4:32 pm

jm, our neighbor had his 2 drivers side tires and wheels stolen off of his car right in front of his house (on the corner, meaning lots of thru traffic) and noone saw or heard a thing.

The location where the cars were “chopped” is a block where parking on the street is away from sightlines. And, too frequently there is a ruckus on the street late at night, so we have learned to sleep through it.
