Thief steals Green Bean contractor’s truck, tools

June 8th, 2010 · 11 Comments

The Green Bean officially got its building permits yesterday to remodel the old McDonald’s site on Greenwood Avenue into a new coffee shop. So contractor John Eidson parked his big gray truck behind the building and got to work.

A short time later, he found his truck was gone, along with all his tools.

“It’s just stuff, I got insurance, so I’ll be okay, it’s just aggravating,” Eidson says. “We’re trying to still open by the 26th. I went to Home Depot this morning and bought what I need for today.”

He says he left the truck unlocked, because on a construction site, he’s running back and forth to his truck constantly. Eidson thinks someone may have been rooting around in there for change and found his spare key.

The truck is a Ford F250 pick up, license A70302Z. “It’s just a big gray Ford pickup truck, sits really high up off the ground. It’s not a Seattle vehicle,” he says with a laugh. “I don’t think anyone got too far. It’s a gas guzzler, it only gets eight miles to the gallon.”

Thanks to Ben at AuroraSeattle for the tip!

Wow, I am glad people are willing to invest and improve the neighborhood, but this outrageous! When are they going to crack down hard on the criminal element? The good people of Greenwood are tired of this stuff.

Another score for the tweakers and hobos — Greenwood, this is why we can’t have nice things. (And yes, I find it ironic that Green Bean has done more to aid some of our local tweakers and hobos than I ever intend to.)

WOW! Hasn’t that place gone through enough??? Yes, I agree with AG…this is why Greenwood can’t have nice things.

Patience every one. The new Fred Meyer will be the final blow to Old Greenwood before the place gets gentrified. Expect organic yoga and pilates, speciality bakeries, fair trade coffee shops, and sustainable sock shops to blossom soon.

Similar thing happened to us last night: one car was left unlocked by accident: thieves found it open, rummaged around and discovered a semi-broken car key in the center console that – jackpot! – fit our other car that happened to be in the adjacent parking spot. Now we only have one car. Oops.

Don’t leave spare keys in your vehicle, people!

    Sustainable socks? Lololol.

    It’s funny because it’s true.

Seriously, that sucks for the contractor, but notice he seems pretty calm about it.

Unfortunately, that area behind the old McDonald’s is sorta a “no mans land” that does not get alot of foot traffic by people.

Unlocked, unattended WITH THE SPARE KEY IN THE TRUCK? In that neighborhood? Who could have foreseen anything going wrong?

totally, totally true about the socks. $23 a pair. essential for sustaining our environment. Seattle has status symbols like anywhere else… they just look a little different.
