In the Red Wine Bar & Cafe at 6510 Phinney Ave. N. had hoped to open in mid-March, but inevitable construction and permitting delays pushed that back. Co-owner Chad Campbell told me this morning that they now hope to open in about two weeks.

“You’re always optimistic about getting through the permit process,” Campbell said. “We’ve done everything we can do, but unfortunately there’s a lot of hoops you have to go through.”
In the Red has received its liquor license, but is still waiting on the final construction sign-off and the health department inspection.
The wine bar will be family friendly and will serve coffee and pastries in the morning and small plates the rest of the day.

How about this….call for a final inspection (they will come out THAT day if you call by 7 am) and then call for a health inspection (also same day…maybe next depending on time called). OR is there something else holding things up? THEN don’t post anything here UNTIL YOU ARE OPEN! Do you expect some people to start lining up in advance? I thought it peculiar we were being advised of your opening MONTHS in advance, but now THIS? I WILL come visit, and look forward to it, but ….

outside the box, what is your beef?!!

Alcohol licensing is notoriously difficult.

No beef….but I do know how these things work. I DO have a beef with yammering about a new business MONTHS before it opens…Kelli’s produce in old Mud Bay location is another example. Let me know when its open…or I will just notice! There is probably more to them taking so long to open then blaming it on others. Hinto: you are correct, but “In the Red has received its liquor license, but is still waiting on the final construction sign-off and the health department inspection.”

I think Kelli’s backed out. I don’t think it was on the main page but it was in the forum.

We wrote about Kelly’s Produce backing out of leasing that space back on March 14:

And we wrote about In the Red Wine Bar today because we have received dozens of emails and twitter messages asking us when it would be open, and I finally had time to call him this morning.

@outside the box: Then don’t read, and definitely don’t take the time to comment. Many of us are interested in this stuff.

They are aware that “in the red” refers to a negative cash situation, right? I see it’s a play on words, but it could be dangerous to play with *those* words.

I’ve had lots of friends open restaurants & other small businesses and I know from experience that construction and permitting never goes as planned. Thank you to the PhinneyWood bloggers for posting this and giving us the 411. I’m looking forward supporting “In The Red” when way open up

Settle down friends….First, I WILL be going in and looking forward to a new regular spot. The reason for my original post was that YES construction and permitting never goes as planned (having done it a number of times myself…incl restaurant biz) but they have those…and WSLCB is even more of a nightmare than DCLU, and they HAVE those approvals. The story said they are waiting for “final inspection” and “health department”. Those are EASY. MY BEEF (I guess I DO have one): This story appeared Feb 8th: http://www.phinneywood.com/2010/02/08/in-the-red-wine-bar-to-serve-small-bites-inexpensive-wine/ I appreciate Doree’s journalistic skills as much as any of you, but I am getting weary of the “so and so will be opening a such and such in xx weeks”….and then nothing happening. Ex: Olive You, Kelly’s Produce, Coffee house in McDonalds, In the Red wine bar, etc. I know many of us feel life moves at too fast a pace sometimes, but lets take a breath and slow down a bit…..I could use a nice glass of wine to do that I guess! Love to you all!!

Good point Greenwood Lou. “Slum City”, “In the Red”, I dont like where this new business name trend is going…

Hello everyone!
Thanks so much for the comments and concern for when we are going to open. We definitely jumped the gun on when we would be done, the previous PhinneyWood article was written on Feb 8th and we didn’t even receive our permits to start construction until the end of Feb, so our bad, overly optimistic I guess.
We only got to the stage of being ready for the final inspections just over a week ago, as the plumbing and electrical contractors have just now completed their jobs, so hopefully it won’t be much longer!
I will say that we are looking forward to everyone visiting us and giving us a try, thanks for being patient with us!!
Regards, we’re looking forward to meeting everyone!
