Shelley wrote this morning that there was a loud boom at Third Avenue Northwest and NW 89th Street about 1:40 a.m. This morning she and neighbors noticed a fine white coating of dust on their house and vehicles.
I did a little exploration and the dust seems to have settled primarily in the five or six houses surrounding ours. It blew off my car easily as I drove and seems to be a fine clay or similar. Can’t imagine what that sound was but it woke up my baby and was definitely at least a few houses away.

I heard the boom last night, but didn’t notice any residue this morning. It sounded to me like a transformer blowing somewhere nearby.

My roommate and I heard the same loud boom from a distance at around that time. We live at 103rd and 8th Ave.

The powder could coincidentally be tree pollen. It was very warm yesterday and a lot of trees went full bloom in my neighborhood and the entire street smelled like fresh flowers around 11pm since it was still 60 degrees.

Yes - agreed on the ‘residue’. My car was covered in a fine white-ish powder, easily blown off. And it was pollen. (Ballard)

heard it at 101st NW and 1st NW. couldn’t find any news on it but maybe related to the other explosions over the last month in Ravenna and Ballard?

You can call or email Seattle City Light, and they’ll let you know if it was a transformer that blew. That happened here (couple blocks south of you) a year ago.

This town is full of light sleepers - never hear any of the explosions, choppers, fire trucks, wind, etc. people keep reporting!

I’m at 87th and Greenwood and heard it too. It didn’t sound like anything I’ve heard before but not so much a boom as a bang - like a huge firecracker.

Sounds like we have a serial bomber…
On the Ballard blog there was mention of a paint can being blown up behind FedEx on Market a week or so ago.. and before that other misc explosions. There was also mention of a small explosion on Queen Anne. Most of them seem to occur after midnight.

I also heard this and it woke me from a dead sleep. I just asumed it came from the crack house on 3rd between 90th and 92nd.

I live at 87th & Phinney and was awake working and didn’t hear anything…

We live at 92nd and Palatine, just off Greenwood, and the explosion woke my husband and I up out of a dead sleep.
It didn’t sound like a transformer to me, but more like when my redneck uncles would toss lit M-80s in empty oil drums.
Scared the crap out of us and the cats.

There were a number of explosions heard in Maple Leaf last night around 11:15 PM over the course of about 5 minutes. The first ones caused my lights to flicker and I went to the front porch and saw flashes accompanying the explosions towards the south. Looked like they were occuring at the substation down by Fairview Christian school. There was a final explosion later on that woke me up, probably the one being reported here.

Eh, probably NOT the one reported here, LOL. I didn’t notice the date of this report. The explosions I heard were the evening of April 5th.
