Police, K-9 tracking suspect in Greenwood

February 10th, 2010 · 20 Comments

Our favorite scanner-hound, Silver, tells us that police are tracking a suspect from a possible hit-and-run accident at N. 87th Street and Greenwood Ave. N 90th Street and Meridian Avenue. That accident happened about 1:08 a.m.

Silver is posting scanner updates on the situation in the forum.

Update: Media reports say a man crashed a car into a house, then ran off. During a chase, the man allegedly assaulted a police officer and tried to take her gun away.

Here are some news reports from The Seattle Times (our news partner), KING 5, KOMO and KIRO.

And here’s video from the scene:

can’t be it. there’s 30-40 cops in my neighborhood on 86th and wallingford sitting with spot lights waiting. also a few secret cops sitting around town. Not sure they’d pull so much force for a possible hit and run.

    WHAT’S HAPPENING??

called King 5 news, they got back to me just now. Apparently a drunk driver drove into a house (no one hurt) on 90th and Meridian, and proceeded to run on foot from the police till they stopped him on 85th. Crazy.

Thanks, Tony! I don’t think we have the whole story yet - I overheard someone say that there is blood in the car from two people, and somebody else say that they have a prisoner at Harborview.

Police are now tracking with K-9 at 86th and Meridian.

K-9 now tracking west from 88th and Meridian.

Bizzare. Hope injuries if any are minor and everyone is safe now.

What a rukkus tonight.I thought I was back in Oakland.

I think that Tony must be right about the initial accident being in the Wallingford area rather than in Greenwood as I had thought.

The K-9 handlers are sure earning their money tonight! They are still tracking in the area.

  • 9 Silver // Feb 10, 2010 at 2:34 am

Still nothing about this on any of the mainstream news sites that I can see.

  • 10 Silver // Feb 10, 2010 at 2:35 am

Now in the 2100 block of 88th.

  • 11 Silver // Feb 10, 2010 at 2:44 am

A woman just called police saying that there is a man hiding behind a tree in her front yard in the 8500 block of Wallingford. Police are moving to contain the area.

“Can someone get media out of here before they get bit?”

  • 13 Silver // Feb 10, 2010 at 2:59 am

The address of the accident that started this chase is actually 2104 N. 90th. Sorry for getting it muddled up with the Greenwood accident. That’s what I get for posting before I’m awake.

Police are releasing containment of the area, but will still be searching the area with K-9.

Guardian One (air coverage) is unavailable due to fog.

3:22AM - It sounds like the suspect has turned himself in! Waiting to hear if they actually have him in custody.

  • 16 Fluffy // Feb 10, 2010 at 3:31 am

    woo hoo!

  • 17 Silver // Feb 10, 2010 at 8:43 am

As of this morning, the suspect is still on the loose, so I guess the “turned himself in” message turned out to be bogus. Bummer!

Had this event happened in Snohomish Co., the police would have shot the suspect and killed him.

I KNEW I should have looked on here to see what was going on. I live on 86th and Meridian and cops were EVERYWHERE, running behind my house and all over the place. A cop was sitting outside out house until about 3 am using his sirens every 10 minutes. I tried to listen to the police scanner, but all it said was they were looking for a suspect.

What a tragedy, probably drugs or drink related. BTW, the area at 90th and Aurora and at 90th and Meridian is NOT Greenwood, it is the Licton Springs neighborhood. As a resident of Licton Springs, I am curious as to why the news media would call this Greenwood.
