With the holiday season upon us, what gift would you give our neighborhoods of Phinney Ridge and/or Greenwood? Here are some things that people might see as gifts already received: A mayor from our neighborhood, the arrest of an arson suspect and a great community center in the form of the PNA.
If you had your way, what gift would you want for our community?

More visible police presence (especially bicycle patrols) to deter the drug dealing and prostitution in our neighborhoods. The emphasis patrols on Aurora cause the criminals to move a couple blocks west into our family neighborhoods. There may be less criminal activity on Aurora, but more in our neighborhoods. Personally I’d rather leave it on Aurora.

More patrols and more sidewalks!
So nice having to walk in the street on dark, rainy nights on the way home from work because the edges are one big rain puddle, and avoid trying to get squashed by reckless drivers who can’t be bothered to pay attention. Where again are those fabled sidewalks that the mayor-elect got built for Greenwood?

Like acc10x, I would love to give sidewalks. I’d also like to give a longer ‘green light’ when turning left onto 85th st. from southbound 99. Right now only 5 cars can get through without being ‘captured’ via the ticket camera. I would give the gift of 10 cars each time.

A decent Pub.

the building with the stars painted on the wall @ 85th & 3rd - that should be a music venue! Happy Holidays!

1. Sidewalks & curbs north of 85th.
2. Crosswalks on Greenwood between 80th & 85th.
3. That the crosswalk lights north of 85th and south of Red Mill worked consistently.
4. More public trashcans.
5. Sidewalks cleared of over-grown shrubs, trees, trailing plants.
6. More inviting storefronts north of 85th (maybe lose the awnings, raise the canopy of the trees, something)
7. A good dessert place.
8. No cutback in hours of operation for the library.
9. No tagging.
10. Less pavement at the dry cleaners on 83rd/Greenwood.
11. A good taco wagon.

Decent local Chinese delivery. RIP Schezuan Bistro.

Along with the addition of sidewalks North of 85th, I would fix the sidewalks South of 85th that have been damaged by trees planted in the yards of homeowners. This weekend, I witnessed a child trip and fall in front of the home on the NW side of 82nd and Greenwood, where the sidewalk is severely ruined by large roots, and am getting tired of walking into the busy street to avoid potholes so large they create virtual sidewalk swimming pools like the one next to the downtown bus stop on 80th and Greenwood.

A community center with a fitness room. A public swimming pool. A good waterspray park.

How about someone to take a comprehensive view of the traffic patterns in the neighborhood instead of blindly putting in sidewalks on streets that were never designed for them. We need someone who is capable of taking a whole-system view and considering ALL effects and consequences. Not saying we don’t need sidewalks, just saying that we need a more comprehensive perspective before acting.
And one more traffic-related wish…some speed enforcement on the side streets (83rd, 84th) that are typically used by impatient people who want to avoid the lights and backups on 85th.

Yes! Speed enforcement on 84th, especially between 6th and 8th where they really get going fast. It’s like an airport runway.

Someplace to get a sandwich or a pastry that isn’t stale.

Kort Haus tavern facade made to look more appealing/inviting.
Healthier options at Red Mill….e.g. whole grain buns, fresh, hand-cut potatoes for their french fries; organic, naturally-raised meats.
Parking lot at the NE corner of 68th & Greenwood.

What’s unappealing about the Kort Hause facade? Aside from the color.
Baranof’s, btw, does breakfast all day. And it’s good stuff.

Here is the gift I would give Greenwood. All the derelicts and vagrants would be magically transported back to Pioneer Square with an invisible fence that keeps them there. All the crackheads would go back to their motels on Aurora. All the drug dealers would be lined up in a vacant lot and shot, then pushed into a hole and used for fertilizer. Property taxes would be locked down so nobody else can jump onto the backs of the productive members of society. Merry Christmas Greenwood.

In ‘n Out in the old McDonalds on Greenwood.
Dance club by Greenwood market turned into something, pub/bistro with outdoor seating would be nice.
Greenwood market to stay where it is.
Building by taproot to be rebuilt soon, preferably exactly how it was, one story brick occupied by local businesses.
Businesses to occupy Piper Village.
RVs campers by our parks to go away.

all great ideas…

decent bagels
flashing yellow left turn light at 80th and G’wood (so we don’t have to sit there waiting to turn on 80th when there’s no oncoming traffic)!

A divorce! So many of the good ideas (sidewalks, thriving businesses, safe residential streets) already apply to Phinney and are sorely lacking in Gwood N of 85th! Seems like when the neighborhoods are described together, the need is less convincing.
And I agree, a new lease for the Greenwood Market would be an EXCELLENT gift!
