Fire relief fundraising reminder

October 30th, 2009 · 7 Comments

So many people want to know how to help the victims of last week’s horrible arson at 85th and Greenwood, here’s a recap, and some new info.

Sanctuary Church, which held services inside Taproot Theatre and created the Green Bean Coffee House, set up the Greenwood Fire Relief Fund at Chase Bank at 85th and Greenwood. This fund will be distributed to all the businesses affected by the fire.

You can also donate directly to the Green Bean through a PayPal link on their website.

The Wing Dome is donating money from certain burger and beer sales at its Greenwood location, 7818 Greenwood Ave. N., this Sunday. From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Wing Dome will donate $2 for each Mac & Jack beer and $4 for each Firehouse burger sold. Donations will go to the Greenwood Fire Relief Fund.

Browns Coffee at 19042 15th Ave. NE in Shoreline, which roasts coffee beans for the Green Bean, has developed a special “Burnt Bean Blend.” It sells for $16 a pound, and $12 of that will be donated to the fire victims. That blend is not currently available on the website, only in the Shoreline shop. But, owner Neal Brown would love to place some of that coffee in Greenwood and Phinney shops, so if your business would like to help, call him at 206-661-9654 or email him.

And several people have emailed us about wanting to set up some kind of fundraising event, possibly a concert. If you are organizing such an event, please let us know in comments so we can spread the word.

If anyone knows of any other fundraising effort, please put a note in comments.

Any help for the Vietnamese and Mexican places?

  • 2 mark // Oct 31, 2009 at 9:37 am

The fund will be distributed to ALL the businesses damaged by the fire. Thankfully the Mexican place (Gorditos) was not. But Pho Tic Tac, The Szechuan Bistro, C.C. Teriyaki and the Green Bean will all be recipients of the fund.

We went and had lunch at the Wing Dome. I made sure to boost my donation a little via a second Mac & Jack’s. There was nothing on the menu or posted, but the server confirmed that the donation offer was good.

We ate at Pho Tic Tac on Friday. The owner came over when we came in and was VERY happy to see her customers from Greenwood at the new location. Same cook, same food, great interior, and plenty of parking (they share a lot with the casino - parking to the north and south of their building is OK). She was very grateful to all the outpouring of concern and care that she has seen, and welcomes all to drop by the new place.

Do you need people for the arson watches?

  • 6 Janet // Nov 9, 2009 at 2:14 pm

where is the new Pho Tic Tac located?

  • 7 Andi // Nov 10, 2009 at 8:42 am

To Kij - the main page of this blog/website has an article with contact info re “GAIN” which is hosting the arson watches.
Pho Tic Tac is up at 145th and Aurora at 14515 Aurora Ave N - not a new location, just a SECOND location. Anyone who wants to should go and support them - thanks on behalf of someone who would find that difficult.
