Equinox Healing Arts moving to Ballard

August 25th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Equinox Healing Arts at 7513 Greenwood Ave. N. is moving to Ballard next month. A sign in their window says their landlord raised their rent too much, so they had to move after five years.

Equinox offers massage, doula services and childbirth education. Their website and phone numbers will remain the same. They expect to open at 5343 Tallman Ave. NW, Suite 207, by early September.

Landlord must be a real ace. A bird in the hand in this economy is much better than two in the maybe-but-probably-not-because-affected-by-the-recession bush.

What IS it with these greed-head landlords? Metropolis, Rising Stars, Equinox, Santoro’s Books – all have had to relocate because of higher rents. And where did Pitcher Bros. Carpet go? Was it pushed out of business by high rents?

Don’t the landlords understand that we are in the midst of a major recession and that property values are going down, not up? Don’t they realize that merchants can’t absorb big rent increases? As a previous writer said, the owners should value the bird in the hand….

If this keeps up, Greenwood Ave. will soon resemble Aurora, where every third storefront is empty. The first floor retail space of the Crest condos was for rent but empty for many years.

Get a clue, Greenwood/Phinney property owners – the bubble has burst!
