Neighbors gather for Night Out block parties

August 5th, 2009 · 1 Comment

We had a great time at our Night Out block party last night. The Seattle Police Department registered more than 1,000 block parties - so that means tens of thousands of people got to know their neighbors a little better.

Here’s a block party on NW 73rd St. where kids rode tricycles and blew bubbles:

And here’s a party from NW 86th St. between 3rd and 6th Avenues (thanks to Brian for the pic):

Here’s a twist on regular barbecue grillin’ from 79th St. (thanks to Phil for the pic):

And here’s the gathering at 1st Ave. near 72nd St. (thanks to Becca for the photo):

And this just came in from 77th St. between Fremont and Linden (thanks, Barbara, for the pic):

As a newcomer, I wasn’t sure what to expect of the “Night Out” against crime - I pictured vigilantes patrolling the streets in red berrets carrying baseball bats. Turned out it was just a nice block party! Enjoyed meetng our new neighbors.
