Scenes from the art walk

July 11th, 2009 · 7 Comments

Here are a few random images from Friday’s monthly Art Up Greenwood-Phinney Art Walk:

Here are muralists Kristine and Ron Henshaw offering portraits outside SPACE: A Design Build Collective. And the Quixotic Classical Trio provided entertainment outside Strut.

And several businesses featured decorated birds from the March of the Penguins, including this one in the window at the Phinney Market.

Maybe it’s just us, but it seemed like there were fewer people out than usual last night. One artist and three young ladies who made the trek from Ballard and Capitol Hill noted as much too. Maybe there were too many other options on a perfect Seattle evening?

Anyway, the art walk is always the second Friday of the month. Maybe we’ll see you at the next one on Aug. 14.

The Art Walk is fun. I enjoyed the show at the Phinney Center Gallery, 2nd floor. Paintings by Scott McDougall and Kathleen McHugh. Very nice ocean and beach themes.

This time of year, probably a lot of folks are on vacation and out of town, in addition to lots of activities and events in Greater Seattle being compacted into three months. Keep on doing this for those of us staying in town!

Greenwood’s artwalk is pretty pitiful compared to other neighborhood artwalks. Perhaps that is why it has low attendance.

Quixotic Trio: Ben Hawthorne, Viola, Autumn Brand, Violin, Danny Stanhope, Cello. They were a great asset to the art opening at Strut. They play weddings, garden parties, and anywhere else classical music is loved and appreciated.

I missed the June walk. There were definitely more people in May, but it is the vacation season.

Strut had a most enjoyable exhibit by Elizabeth Torbet. Her work enjoys nuance and razor sharp perfection softened through a childs eye. Perhaps reminiscent of Botero delatinized, recentered and very much Seattle. Her work is rare and her price points are relieving.

There were two less people this month. We were in Oakland.
Be at the art walk in August! :-)
Art Critic: which neighborhood walk is better and why? I do the Ballard one too and think the two are pretty evenly matched.
