A garbage truck struck some branches and/or a power pole which took out some power lines on Aurora Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. near North 84th Street, prompting the closure of Aurora Avenue.
It appears the accident also apparently temporarily disrupted power, resetting our alarm clocks right about the same time. Did anyone else have their power go out?
The accident also explains the helicopter one of our readers reported circling near her house. According to this story, KIRO’s was over the scene.
We’re wondering if this is one of the new larger trucks, one of which sprayed natural gas after clipping some limbs in April on Phinney Ridge, and another which totalled a Ballard garage.

We heard a huge bang at about 5 am (we live in 84th St near Aurora) but didn’t lose power.

i saw it on my way to work around 7:50. it did look like a rather large truck but i couldn’t tell if it was newer or not. SPD had the entire block closed up on Aurora and even some side streets nearby.

Our power went out for a brief second right at 5 a.m. We’re near 72nd and 1st NW. We happened to be up, nursing a sick kitty.

The noise pollution caused by the helicopter this morning from around 5:45 to 7:00 was awful.

The same thing happened about two weeks ago in Greenlake on NE 75th between Latona and Sunnyside with one of the new garbage trucks.
