Someone kicked in the door of the Phinney Market at 5918 Phinney Ave. N. early this morning.
Luckily the store was not vandalized and no one was hurt or injured. This person kicked in the door. If anyone saw anything please contact the local authorities and please be on the lookout.

We’re sorry to hear this is happening again. Was there a security system or video cameras?

There’s a group of shady characters living in their trucks and vans near this store. There are homeless people living in the park. When is the SPD going get these bums out of the neighborhood?

Massage parlors take priority. Though I have yet to see a hooker break a window.
Most likely it wasn’t bums either. Most likely junkies looking for cash from the register.

Same thing happened a couple of weeks ago at Mud Bay Granary, around 83rd on Greenwood. Front door kicked in. Nothing taken or vandalized.

Did the front door of the Starbuck’s also get kicked in recently? I was walking by one day last week and noticed that it had a piece of plywood in it.

Starbucks had this happen last week, too.
You know Jim, those homeless folks in the vans have never been anything but nice to me. Have you had a problemwith them? I know the vans are an eye sore but I hate to classifly folks as criminals sipmply because they are down on their luck…

I get tired of them asking for money and panhandling. They should get jobs like the 10 million illegals living in the USA.

The bums should quit throwing their litter in front of the zoo.

Apparently there was a raid on the Zeeks Pizza dumpster last night or early this morning, and several uneaten pieces were littering the ground on the sidewalk next to the Phinney Market this morning. According to a couple Zeeks employees, there were several pieces found in another area near Zeeks.

Hey, JT, that might be raccoons. We have that problem at my building. Unless the lids get chained shut those little buggers get in.
And then there’s plenty for the crows to scatter too.

Wow!
Crime in Phinney?
TRANSIENTS in Phinney?
Living in parks and in vans????
Criminal-minded RACCOONS!!????
I thought Phinney was the Utopia that Greenwood thrives to be?

The homeless people living in vans are not the cause of this. It’s the last thing they want.
Now, the people that hang around the playground in strange clothing really creep me out, but I think that’s just the same homeless people.
The door kick-ins are more than likely drunk and or drugged out people roaming the streets looking for the easy buck.
It seems like the police could PATROL the street one night a week, on foot. What a concept.

The way the pizza had been dumped, it didn’t look like the work of crows or raccoons. There was a beer bottle by it, and there was about 2 large pizzas worth all dumped on the parking strip and sidewalk. They were uneaten with maybe some toppings missing.

I walked by the zoo today and a man came staggering out of the bushes like he’d just had a nice poop. A little farther up the street people are camped under the pine trees with litter all around. In the playground a woman lives on the park bench. That’s the Phinney lifestyle.

@17: Really? Never seen them. But maybe you could actually start doing something about it? Start by contacting your neighbors about the issue and presenting a good case to the local precinct commander. Or, you could just keep whining about them in random blog comments.

A couple of weeks ago around 1:00am , someone(s) dumped a full can of garbage into the middle of the street near my house (just off Phinney Ave.) and left the can there as well. There seems to be more drunk a-holes walking home from or going from bar to bar on Phinney lately. (and I’m not anti-bar by any means)

Hey Neighbor, open your eyes and go for a walk by the zoo sometime. The police have been contacted numerous times. We seen the owner of 7-11 chasing them out the store. No whining, just facts.

Drunk a-holes and junkies are a separate problem from the homeless. Most drunk a-holes and junkies I’ve known have had homes to go to.

All businesses in this area should have an alarm system and other electronic security for protection.
24 Neighbor // May 28, 2009 at 9:42 am
Yo, I walk around the perimeter of the zoo daily. I agree there are transients, but I do not agree that this is intended to be a forum for transient-bashing — or that transients are the cause of crime. They’re ugly and they stink, but they’re not a reason for a police presence on their own.
Maybe instead of slinging half-assed comments, neighbors could get a group of 6 or so people together and take an every-other-night safety stroll around the perimeter of the zoo with flashlights, LEDs, etc.? It’s not as though this tactic alone would or should be intended to drive out the “bad people.” But certainly, if you’re looking for a place to sleep and base your vandalism operations, a park path regularly frequented by well-lit walkers at night wouldn’t be at the top of the list.
