Pillagers has become my new neighborhood favorite. Great beers (from Baron Brewing and many guest taps as well), decent prices and darn good food. Highly recommend the Black Bonney Porter and the “Parrot Wings:” Boneless Jerk Seasoned.

New kid on the block. And the only competition Naked City has for my beer love. Fab beer selection, big tv, and very pleasant bar. Very nice, attentive, bar staff.

    Lame, lame, lame

Sit at a hard picnic table and never see a waiter: I think not. The staff acts as annoyed when you ask for anything. Worse service I’ve had in a long time. I saw plenty of people get up and walk out after one beer. This place sucks.

This place SUCKS!!! I fail to realize the concept of a pirate bar. The staff was terrible and the food was very expensive too. It confuses me how little they changed a Tullys to a bar. i think the paint on most of the walls even looked like Tullys paint colors. Save your money or give it to someone that wants to work for it like the Naked City. I really feel like they are trying to look like Prost!???

Screw this place. If you want good food, great service and fantastic beer go to Naked City. I live within blocks and love to go out for beer and an average dinner but i won’t return to this place.

Such hostility. I can’t really speak for the food but the beer selection is yummy and the staff always know a lager from an ale. I have yet to see any attitude from them (and I’m a goofy looking, Hobbit sized person - the type that usually gets attitude from wait staff).
And Prost isn’t the first, or last, Pub to have picnic style tables.
Give it a shot, people, it’s still new.

I’m guessing that all three of the hostile posts were by someone that has an interest in them not doing well. They were all on the same day within a few hours of each other which is considered “high volume” on this section of the blog. And two of them specifically tell you to go to Naked City instead. Very transparent.

Bill: Your guesswork is equally “transparent.”

Alright, alright, as an unbiased observor I’ll settle this.

Pillager’s Pub is…pretty good. Not great by any means–this place defintely has no “wow” factor.

That said, the beer is very good. I like Baron brewery and this is their hub, so you get a great selection of Baron (and Three Skulls) beers. The food was decent and I found the service to be pretty friendly and attentive (much better than Gainsbourg).

However, the setup of the place is wierd to say the least. It still does feel like a Tully’s, as someone said, with a wierd corporate sheen and vibe that isn’t what I enjoy in a bar. I like an open feeling with windows, etc…but this place just doesnt do it right. Also, don’t like how the bar leaves you with your back to everything.

Like I said overall not a bad option for a couple beers and a burger, but nothing I would jump out of my seat and get excited to go to.

Perhaps it has improved but we got terrible service and inedible food. As soon as a few people came in the windows all steamed up from lack of ventilation.

The pirate theme is half-assed at best, like a poor-man’s theme park snack bar. And that sign outside is just embarrassing; it couldn’t have been cheap yet it is as amateurish as they come. Baron Brewing deserves a better vendor.

And no, I’m no shill for Naked City; as great as their beer selection is they have all the atmosphere of a dentist’s office. Apparently a lot of people have gotten bad service at Gainsbourg but I have not. Just wish they had a decent beer selection!

Maybe they’ve changed but after quite a long time at least under the impression that I disliked Pillager’s Pub, I’ve completely reversed my opinion and I now enjoy it at least as much as Naked City - my other favorite bar in Greenwood.

NCBC has an amazing rotating beer list and it’s pretty hard to compete with them on just those grounds. However, I think Pillager’s Pub has a totally decent selection, friendly staff (now, at least - though it left me unimpressed when I first went there in the spring) and now when I think of the ambiance I no longer think “it’s obvious this place was very recently a Tully’s” and now think “this is pretty quirky for a bar, and not in a bad way.” Throw in a couple big TV’s, the fact that it’s not incredibly popular so you can definitely find seating and get good service, and the old pinball table (Black Knight) and I’m happy to go here.

Also - I’m going out on a limb and saying they have the best nachos in the city. NCBC’s food selection is awful.

I think it’s worth giving them another chance if you decided before that you really didn’t like Pillager’s Pub and seeing if we can keep both the cool new pubs afloat.

Tried the pub twice and have to say the service was lousy. I want to like the place, I like the big tables, but the service was slow and really inattentive. Nice people, but if you look me in the eye and then go back to leanin’ on the bar I won’t come back.

Pillager’s Pub HAS gotten much better. When they first opened I think they were unaccustomed to service and could not decide whether they were a restaurant-like pub or a Euro-style self serve. Last April I waited for 20 minutes and did not get served.

That has improved AND (for all you parents) you can take kids inside, which is a big plus.

They have improved with time and the food selection gets better and better each month. The owner Dan is VERY friendly and they have an excellent selection of beers which THEY brew down in Georgetown. 1/2 of growlers on Tuesdays.

    So good and getting better…

A stop for lunch and beer was very rewarding. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable service.
GREAT beer! Sandwiches were huge, yummy and well worth the price.
Fun and welcoming place for all ages.
    Give it a try……
