Seattle Sounders FC is heavily promoting its home opener on March 19 by asking fans to hang Sounders scarves off poles, overpasses and anywhere else they can think of. These four scarves were swinging in the breeze across from Starbucks and Red Mill today:

And these two were stuck to the pole right outside Starbucks:

Check out the Sounders website for photos of more scarves around the city, including some great shots of scarves on the Waiting for the Interurban and J.P. Patches sculptures in Fremont. Thanks, Karl, for the tip!

Saw about 4 of them down by Green Lake near Duke’s.

Are they giving out scarves somewhere? They aren’t super cheap on the Sounders web site and I’m hesitant about buying some and just leaving them in public, especially with the theft that has been going on lately…

If they’re giving them out let us know!

Passed a bunch on my hike to the bus this morning; they were all over at Greenwood & 80th.
Sounds like they’re “giving them out” by leaving ‘em hanging all over town to me.

I have seen on some of the Sounders blogs that they are for the taking, so if you find one pick it up. It was a viral marketing plan by the team.

It was part of a guerrilla stunt to mark 2 weeks until the season opener. There were about 1000 scarves hung up and some huge ones on the Tullys building and over 99/520/90 during rush hour. If you have a scarf, I’d put it in your window or something but I wouldn’t leave it outside… they’re a hot commodity right now
. The Sounders site also has paper scarves that you can print. http://scarfseattle.com

Scarves, scarves, everywhere! Saw a huge one held up across Zoo bridge on 99 northbound last night – lots of supportive honking! Grab a scarf and show your colors. Home opener on Thursday March 19th is sold out! 32,400 people will be holding up their scarves and supporting our new home team – new team – new franchise – same name, same crazy soccer town. Yeah!
