February 18th, 2009 · 4 Comments

MyBallard reports that the Take 5 Urban Market at 8th Ave NW and NW 70th St. is now open for business. They had a “soft opening” on Tuesday.

Take 5 has all the grocery basics, including produce, plus sandwiches, soup, coffee and wine. They plan to eventually have some prepared meals. Take 5 replaces the old Wicker Basket convenience store.

Yes. Went in there for a sandwich yesterday. It’s quite good, and reasonably priced.

I hope Take 5 will take the place of Phinney Market in terms of prepped food. I loved Phinney’s tamales and stuffed tomatoes.

I dropped by this evening right before they close (hours are apparently 7-7) and had some really good homemade tomato soup.

What a great addition to the neighborhood. Great food that is prepared by a quality chef team of Bryan and Alex. Bryan has worked at the Harbor Club and the 4 Seasons Olympic Hotel in the past and has summers in Alaska at a Fishing Lodge preparing the guests food with a Northwest flavor . My understanding is that his brother in law has asked him to work with him get the place off the ground and provide a great place for the neighborhood to come and have restaurant quality food for take out or eat in without going to a noisy, crowded restaurant. Bryan has prepared all the dinner specials with alot of thought to provide the best quality meal possible. Most of the items sold in the store are local including wines, beer, fresh fruit, and vegetables.
