Greenwood’s OK Corral restaurant expanded to West Seattle in November and had planned to keep its Greenwood location at 8733 Greenwood Ave. N., but anyone who’s driven by lately has seen it looking pretty empty. I called Otis, the owner, at his West Seattle restaurant tonight and he says he had to close because “the building was just falling down around me.” He rented the building.
While he’s currently pretty busy with his West Seattle restaurant, he is looking for a new spot to rent in the Greenwood area. “If you see any old buildings pop up, you let me know,” he says.

We’ve noticed that it’s empty and dark. VERY depressing!!! We miss our BBQ fix and don’t want to drive to W Seattle.

So what’s wrong with West Seattle? Thing about black folks and BBQ is….it’s catch as catch can. C’mon, gas up da Sube (it’s nearly free nowadays anyway) and head out there. Or even over to the CD to R&L’s Home of GREAT BBQ onYesler. Half the gas….twice da taste…

That is so sad, I loved that place and Otis is a sweetheart.

Trapper - there’s a BBQ place on 105th & Greenwood - hardly a long drive. Right next to the future home of Snoose Junction Pizza

And there is another BBQ joint in Ballard on the corner of 20th & 65th NW.

As to the bbq joints at 20th and 65th and the one on 105th and greenwood YUCK Otis’ is the absolute best. Don’t even order, just ask what he wants to serve you. Take what you get. You’ll be happy.

We do go to those places, but they just aren’t Otis. And no, West Seattle isn’t that far, but I’d like the food to be still warm when I get it home.
I’ll just have to start scouring the neighborhood for places…hey, how about the 12 step place by Mae’s?

Oh, God, if Otis moves into the 12 step shop I’ll weigh 400 pounds by Christmas. That’s TOO close!

Ooh. I agree that Otis is only BBQ around here worth having; everyone else seems to be using sugar and ketchup to do their thing. But what can we do to help? What sort of spot should we be watching for? What *is* required to house a fine BBQ shack, other than that the building not be an actual (lord, his old landlord ought to be *ashamed*) shack?

Gabriel’s Fire http://www.gabrielsfire.com/ is a new-ish place at NW 80th & 24th Ave that has awesome pulled pork, ribs, mac & cheese, coleslaw. But best of all, they have bbq brisket like I grew up with in Texas. They have a variety of sauces served on the side that highlight the meat rather than overshadow it. Portions are gracious and the prices are great. Love it! In fact, I think that’s what’s for dinner.

I found ok to be way over priced and not good. Glad to see it go.

Arrgghh…but for for PhinneyWood for breaking the news. I almost started a forum the other day to ask if anyone knew what was up.
Loved the food and loved Otis. 12-step it is!

Jesus, Fnarf, we must live almost on top of each other. Fascinating.
