Gainsbourg opens

November 23rd, 2008 · 11 Comments

Gainsbourg, which took over the Northside Grill storefront at 8550 Greenwood Ave. N., has opened.

More photos from inside the bar can be found here. The city approved their liquor license on Nov. 18. Thanks, Paul, for the heads up about the opening.

Ugh. What a horrible time to be opening up a restaurant.

I am glad there’s some new blood in the Green-hood though, but time will tell which ones will last. Greenwood has such great food already with so many great values, these new places are gonna have to match that AND THEN “bring it” with GREAT customer service.

Here’s hoping they can do better than the last 3 businesses that were in that location.

Yeah, true. Like Anthony Bourdain said, a location that keeps turning over can be the kiss of death.

Wow…I hope the first three commenters aren’t on the Greenwood Hospitality Committee.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Gainsbourg, and good luck. I make you this solemn vow that I will spend my hard-earned money and get boozed up in your establishment before the new year.

Thanks for the kind words, John. The neighborhood folks have been out in support and we’re very grateful for that.

I thought that the plan was to serve cocktails. I don’t see that they’ve applied for a spirits license.

I dream of Zig Zag North.

I found the food to be good. However the $8.00 for a 10 oz glass of beer is way over priced.

Hannah, I went with some friends on Saturday night and really liked the overall vibe. However I did get the “we don’t really like you’re kind here” feeling from one of your waitresses. Maybe it was my lack of mustache and top hat.

Gainsbourg has applied for a license to serve spirits — it is now in the capable hands of the State of Washington and the City of Seattle. We also have moderately priced beers by the bottle and on tap as well as over a dozen wines available by the glass.

Like Chris, I must have erred by leaving my mustache and top hat home. Apparently, such attire is key to catching the eye of a server when giving that, “ready to order something” look.

On a positive note, the place does look cool and the music was good. The wine list had some interesting stuff. I sincerely hope the attitude warms up.

I had a similar experience as Chris and Etta, probably also around December, waiting forever on the servers. I made it clear we were a little short on time but it was fairly empty so I thought this would be OK, but still my date needed to leave before we could get the bill. After she left, it took me another solid 10 minutes to wrap up the bill and get out of there. I think this is the only time in my life I’ve stiffed a server out of a tip and I don’t regret it.

But in spite of all of that, I totally agree with Etta that I’d really *like* to go back. The menu, layout, and decor / ambiance were pretty terrific. It shouldn’t take any work work for me to love the Gainsbourg.
