In yet another of a spate of criminal activity in PhinneyWood this week, an alleged bank robber was arrested outside the Washington Mutual Bank branch at the corner of 85th Street and Greenwood Avenue on Wednesday. David Stoesz got it on video and wrote about it on his post on Seattle Weekly.
Update: Just verified - the call to the police came in at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, according to the duty officer at the Seattle Police Department North Precinct.

Thanks for letting us know what happened. We were at Romio’s while this was going on. We had no clue. It never showed up on the news.

Actually, the thanks should go to Michael who gave us a tip about it and to David who had the wherewithal to shoot the video and post something about it.

Actually it did make it onto the news. Fox had a bit about it on their 10pm news…

Seems there’s been a spate of amateur bank robberies lately. Talk about a losing proposition–cameras everywhere, small potential take, huge prison sentence.

Especially considering they’re robbing a WaMu. Ain’t nothin’ in there for the taking, sorry.

Another ominous data-point: coming home through Fremont a couple nights ago, I spotted two spent .40 caliber casings on the ground. This was around 48th and Fremont, just south of the Zoo.
I found myself wondering if they could have come from those guys who were driving around a couple weeks ago on their crime spree in our neighborhood (I think they were from White Center, and were caught).
