I peeked at the menu and immediately walked out - completely overpriced and underwhelming.

And seriously, the only meatless option is a veggie burger? That is the biggest culinary cop-out and an absolute guarantee that I’ll not patronize an establishment.

The food was OK, but they need to lose the video projection system. It’s really annoying. If people want to watch TV they can sit at the bar. Oh wait, there’s no TV there…

It is too loud, and the french fries were greasy. Also the service was really slow.

I’ve heard people say they want the old pig’n whistle, but no…we just want good food that is simple and reasonably priced.

I only gave 1 star because 0 was not an option.

We had brunch there this morning. It seems like a lot of the concepts are good in writing, but come out not so great. My scrambled eggs were runny, toast was black, and freshly poured coffee lukewarm. We all would love another brunch spot in the neighborhood. I really hope they can improve!

I really wanted to like it but everything we tried was disappointing. And woe to the chicken wings! They used to be soooo good, in the old incarnation of this place. Now, I wouldn’t even call them substandard. Just… disappointing.

A great local spot, but way overpriced and servings too small to be a regular hangout. Food was ok, nothing to write home about like when a gastropub gets it just right. Drop the prices and add a little pub variety and things will fall into place.

Not great. The mixed drinks weren’t very good. Prices are pretty high. The fries were good, though.

  • 8 HK // Nov 26, 2008 at 9:12 pm

A bit spendy but both times I’ve been to the P&W the food was fantastic.

  • 9 Helene // Nov 29, 2008 at 12:36 pm

I’m sorry to say that it was a pretty bad piece of pork. Also overpriced.
    Slow, weird service.

Since this place reopened, I am not as fond of it as I once was. The food is good enough, but it is very overpriced for pub fare. One thing that I hope is quickly removed from the menu is the tomato mush that is served in place of ketchup. It is not good.

Is it a restaurant? Is it a pub? I can’t tell anymore. I agree with other posters at $10 for a BLT w/ avacado and fries, this place is overpriced. Don’t get me wrong, the food is good. They just need to cut food prices by about 20%.

  • 12 Mike // Jan 27, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Can’t give it a star since we haven’t gone in but figured would post here as well that it seems out of market in terms of price and food. If we want to drop real $ we’ll go to Stumbling Goat or Santa Fe, if I want pub food there are plenty of places to get pub food that don’t set me back so far. Yhea, I haven’t been there, so maybe it is that amazing but from other reviews here I get the sense we’re not really missing anything. Old P&W was pretty good, great ribs.

Wish I’d read these comments before dining there last weekend! I agree with so many of the complaints already listed: underwhelming menu, overpriced, slow/inattentive service and average to poor food.

  • 14 SPOSeattle // Mar 15, 2009 at 7:54 pm

Really want to like it, looks cool from the street, holds a key location in G-Wood, like eating out, like drinking but I just can’t justify the prices and quality.

  • 15 jackie // Apr 11, 2009 at 3:49 pm

    their burger is REALLY good.

  • 16 Trix // Apr 12, 2009 at 3:07 pm

The new owners don’t seem to know what pub food is. Not that the menu of the old version was what I’d call pub food, but it was a better stab at it. Hate the menu, hate the drinks, beer selection could be a lot better.
At least they got rid of the weird giant tv in the dining area, though. But would it kill them to have a tv in the bar? So I can at least watch a game while drinking an overpriced beer?

  • 17 SPG // Apr 27, 2009 at 9:58 pm

I have to echo the comments about the overpriced pub fare. Why is it so expensive?

  • 18 Trix // May 1, 2009 at 3:53 pm

On a side note - I haven’t been back but was told they finally put a TV in the bar.
    No other improvements were mentioned.

  • 19 biily // Jul 23, 2009 at 1:54 pm

The owner was not friendly at all bad customer service overpriced food ,the old menu was way better.

  • 20 Sharon // Aug 2, 2009 at 12:56 pm

Really love what they did with the decor, but the menu was a step down. It tries to hard, when really what most of the demographic in Greenwood wants is some thoughtful pub fare. I think if they balances some of their more experimental items with some traditional ones, and brought the prices down a smidge, they would be rolling in customers again. As it is, every time we go in, it’s always the same story–empty echoing reminder of the P&W we used to love. I miss some late night chili and nachos, and the option to have a really good seasonal fish or pasta, a longer beer and wine list, and more tantalizing veggie options for my veg friends. It just doesn’t seem like rocket science to me to have some traditional pub food available at a pub. *shrug* Stopped going not too long back. Will give it another try if I hear anything changes.
Sidenote, we really enjoy brunch there. We have been pleased particularly with the eggs benedict.

  • 21 Vanessa // Aug 16, 2009 at 12:06 pm

Very overpriced! Little options on the food menu. Beer was okay. Probably won’t return.

  • 22 LJ // Oct 7, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I agree that the old menu was cheaper and a little better. But, if you go during happy hour when appetizers are 1/2 off and beers a dollar off, you won’t be disappointed.

I just read that there are are new owners as of this week. My family and I will have to go try it out. We used to eat there almost once a week, then the place changed hands, we tried a couple of times but wasn’t happy with the food at all. Too expensive and not a very good selection, even for our kids, so we stopped going. I hope that the new owners can bring the Pig & Whistle back!!

  • 24 skateornot // Nov 3, 2009 at 7:53 pm

@Melissa - where did you hear that they changed owners? Just curious because we were in there last Friday night (Oct. 30) and as far as the menu was concerned - no sign of new ownership.

I do agree with EVERYTHING you said though. We loved THE OLD Pig.

My wife and I went to the Pig & Whistle last Sunday for brunch and on Friday for Happy Hour. Brunch was very tasty (my wife especially like the potatoes) and happy our was fantastic! My wife had a salad and I had the burger and beer combo for $10. We’ve tried all three iterations of the P&W over the past few years and we are cautiously optimistic that *finally* we may have a good local place where we can go before we finish of the evening at the Naked City Taphouse.

My recommendation is give this place a try again.

I’d been wanting to try the PnW for quite a while, so went last night to check it out. The garlic yam fries were delightful and the beer selection was good but that’s about where it ends. We also got the Big Bowl of Salt (aka bacon-mac-n-cheese) and an order of cripsy smoked chicken wings which were neither cripsy, nor smoked. They did however, come with a choking cloak of salt sauce.

I was really disappointed. And bacon-mac is such a great idea! When the waitress came to take away the barely-touched wings, I mentioned (nicely) that everything was pretty salty and she replied that a lot of people like it like that and just eat it right up. Um… that’s great. A lot of people like 7-11 burritos too but that doesn’t mean they’re good.

The Verdict: Divey in a bad way, badly executed food. Great however, for taking the team after a game at Lower Woodland - nice big seating area. Good beer selection. I probably won’t be back.

Anyone who hasn’t been to P & W lately should give another try. Delicious food and friendly service. Burgers, Reuben and Chicken sandwich are all fab. And the mac and cheese is top-notch - but forget the bacon, Lexicon Girl, of course that makes it more salty. Love this place, and hope it lasts.

  • 28 SS // Mar 1, 2010 at 3:12 pm

I made the mistake of going on “industry night,” which basically is a time when if you aren’t in the food/beverage service industry, you can forget service. I was so disappointed. They were out of what I wanted, gave me the wrong side dish, and when the right one came out it was cold and flavorless. We had to wait over an hour for our food and the place was about 1/4 full.

    I miss the old P&G!
