There is a reason this restaurant is empty, even on sunny summer weekends when outdoor seating is in demand. The food is lifeless and salty. I found it to be uneatable. It’s a shame, because the restaurant is in a great location.

I agree. I was disappointed with the food, it was pretty awful.

The food here was terrible–salty, undercooked pasta, blah! It tasted like a frozen entree you would stick in the microwave for lunch, and then not eat due to its nastiness.

I like Gaspare. Cozy, intimate, good food, and great service. Despite the bad reviews, I think you should try it, you may like it.

Yeah, I agree, I think it’s worth a try! We’ve been there a few times. The bread is good and their vegetarian options are awesome.

I can’t remember the food, but had one of the best margaritas of my life there!

I do not understand the negative reviews at all. My wife and I are foodies, and we love Gaspare. I eat food from there about every other week, and I have never had a lifeless, salty, or undercooked meal. My wife has a very low tolerance for salt and has never found their food salty.

Our experience has been great service and great food every time. The sauces Gaspare uses with his fish dishes are incredible; the Pesce del Giorno is always worth ordering. I once had a trout in saffron sauce that was the most delicious trout I’ve ever eaten. His antipasto is so great that it has single-handedly converted five different people – including me – to loving eggplant for the first time. The Wild Italian Salad and Cioppino are great, and my wife swears by his lasagna.

If you had a negative experience at Gaspare’s, I urge you to try his food again, cause it’s great now. And if you have never eaten there, do yourself and favor and try it. His food is very, very good.

I’ve eaten here 3 times, never again.
1st time was the week they opened. Food was cold in the middle, the cream sauce broke and I assumed it was just opening week, getting into the swing of things.
2nd time, 3 month later. This time it was the lasagne that had been improperly heated, there were. All the menu discriptions sound appetising, but nothing lives up to its promise.
3rd and last time, a year later. Hoping that staff change-over might have helped improve things. Again hideously dissappointing. Another cold dish and a seemingly long wait. I really want to love things like their home made chicken meatballs with pine nuts… but the ability to deliver it an edible condition has been somewhat lacking.
    Not returning, ever.

AC offered a ringing endorsement. The bread is good. Wooppie. Who goes to a restaurant for the bread? Who goes to an Italian restaurant for vegetarian fare? Blah indeed.

Love the food. The Chicken Marsala was delicious. A friend from San Fran. said his vegan dish was the best ever. And Phinneyman-loosen your shorts a little. AC’s endorsement also talked about the awesome vegetarian option (which i agree).

My husband and I are vegetarian and we’re happy to see that they have a few options for us. However, the food is really flavorless, and salty. We’ve been there 3 times over the last 4 years because its so convenient and close to home, but we have to be pretty tired and famished to go there.

I tried Gaspare in its previous location on Lake City Way and 15th NE. It wasn’t that good then either – totally agree that the food was bland, but at least the tomato sauce tasted like aluminum. I was most disappointed that my pasta came covered with a handful of dried parsley. Dried? Really? Parsley isn’t THAT expensive…

There are a couple of good reviews here, maybe I’ll give it another try. It’d be nice to have a solid go-to Italian restaurant on Phinney.
