The Greenwood favorite, Pig ‘N Whistle, reopens for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Friday, according to the new owners.

The bar, which closed in March, has been remodeled and the menu revamped. The menu retains a British flavor, but also strays across the English Channel with items such as duck fat fries with smoked tomato jam and homemade semolina gnocchi with tomatoes and olives.
The new owners are no strangers to good food: They also own Portage on Queen Anne.
Thanks, Christopher, for the tip! And, yes, Rene the bartender is back.

Portage is freekin` AWESOME. I’ve eaten there a couple of times and been very impressed. I have to be honest, I never was a huge fan of the P&W before. Aside from Rene, it was always just so-so. I’m really looking forward to giving the new Pig n Whistle a fresh try!

Great to see so many folks checking out the re-vamped P&W on Fri night but hopefully they can improve the service which was S-L-O-W. And guys, how about posting your current draft beers on the wall for all to see…..

The food was so-so. I’d say a little overpriced but then again maybe I’m reeling from the change of thinking of the Pig as a place to go when I’m too lazy to cook to a place that is a destination. 17 bucks for a pasta dish that was 50% olives and 50% pasta. The notion of playing cartoon videos on the wall w/ music playing is a little out of place too. I can see that as a fun aspect when it’s 10, 11 at night when I’m out ‘clubbin’ in Greenwood but when it’s 6pm and I want dinner, I don’t need to watch 1980′s cartoons on the big screen.
I’ll try it again in a few weeks.
