While the parade got off to a little bit of a late start, a crowd of thousands lining Greenwood Avenue and 85th patiently waited to see this annual Seafair tradition. It started off with the kids parade:

Followed by the Seattle Police Motorcycle Drill Team, which gets the crowd riled up, including one kid who tried to get a high-five from one of the officers before his dad pulled him to the side.

The Navy Band Northwest was all precision:

And of course, what parade would be complete without the Seafair Clowns?

Nice herbal wreath, dude.
Update: Lots more photos from Seattle Daily Photo on Flickr here.

I just moved to the neighborhood and I thought the parade was great. However, there was such a huge break between the kid’s parade and the rest! The kids sitting next to us starting throwing rocks in the street and complaining they were bored……

Does anyone know what the delay was? This was my first time attending the parade and after the kids parade I was like “is that it?, that’s attracted all these people?” We stuck around a little longer but my baby started fussing so we headed home. Then about an hour later “BOOM” came the pirate ship, and woke up the baby (parade terminates on my street).

A Seafair organizer tells me the kids parade started at least 15 minutes late. Then they held back the parade to give the Seattle Police Motorcycle Drill Team enough space to do their thing.
It seemed to me though that they gave the motorcycle unit a LOT of extra space.

Having attended the parade for the past several years, it always seems to start a little late. Since it starts up at 95th, by the time it gets down towards 85th (where we always watch it), it’s a bit more spread out and a little less organized than I’ve been told it is at the beginning. I’m not sure what would fix that, but hey, it’s a community parade, not Torchlight. Since the whole thing is so kid friendly, I’m willing to cut it some slack.
