Just what’s going on with McDonald’s?

July 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

According to a nearby business owner, the defunct McDonald’s on Greenwood Avenue was supposed to be torn down and replaced by a new development.

Go by the building now, however, and you’ll see fresh 2×4s altering the roof line and a stack of plywood used for sheathing. An employee at the neighboring Romio’s said they’re surprised as well, since they too heard it would be torn down. In any case, the building is still covered with graffiti.

Update: Marty comments that the owner is now trying to lease it out for a couple years before tearing it down.

I work at Taproot Theatre so I was curious about McD’s new roof. I asked our General Manager and he said that the landlord is seeking a new tenant for a couple of years. I have no additional info beyond that.

This makes no sense, except that the developer has already run out of money. What kind of retailer would want to rent a building for two years? No way to recoup any kind of investment…very madening.
